This lesson focuses on understanding and calculating area through practical activities and design challenges. Students will learn to measure area by counting unit squares, make connections to multiplication and addition, and apply these concepts to create designs for classroom items. The lesson includes various exploration stations where students estimate and count areas of different objects, as well as a team design project where they must create an object that occupies a specified area of 24 square units.
