This resource focuses on teaching students how to calculate the total weekly gross pay for an hourly worker. The learning goal is to enable students to convert shift times into decimal hours, add shifts to get a total weekly hour count, and finally apply the formula for gross pay, which is the hourly rate multiplied by the total decimal hours worked. It includes a conversion table for common time increments (15, 30, 45, and 60 minutes) and presents a worked example of a case study involving an individual named Alex, who has a flexible work schedule. Following this, there are practice tasks for students to reinforce their learning, including activities for calculating the total pay for given shifts, as well as a challenge task that encourages critical thinking regarding potential pay raises.
