Original Prompt

addition and subtraction of integers

This learning resource focuses on integer operations, specifically addition and subtraction of positive and negative integers. The objective is to enable students to accurately perform these operations using number lines and conceptual understanding. The document begins by introducing the concept of integers as movements on a number line—positive integers represent movement to the right, while negative integers signify movement to the left. It includes worked examples illustrating how to add signed integers, followed by independent practice problems for students to solve. Additionally, the resource contains a section on integer subtraction, encompassing computational practice, real-world applications, and error analysis to deepen understanding. Engaging questions encourage students to articulate how the signs of integers influence their operations and movements on the number line.
