This learning resource focuses on special right triangles, specifically the 45-45-90 and 30-60-90 triangles. Students will explore derived side length ratios and apply these ratios to calculate unknown side lengths in these specific triangle types. The resource begins with a review of the Pythagorean Theorem, emphasizing its application to right triangles and the efficiency of using consistent ratios for special triangles. It provides detailed descriptions of the side length relationships in 45-45-90 triangles (where the hypotenuse is the length of a leg multiplied by √2) and in 30-60-90 triangles (where the hypotenuse is double the short leg and the long leg is the short leg multiplied by √3). Guided practice problems encourage students to apply these concepts to find missing side lengths. Additionally, the resource includes independent practice problems involving trigonometric ratios, error analysis tasks for identifying mistakes in calculations, and a challenge task to deepen understanding through real-world application.
