This learning resource consists of two main activities designed to teach students about the differences between flat maps and the round Earth. In Activity 1, 'The Orange Peel Challenge', students draw a world map on an orange and then attempt to peel and flatten the orange skin. This hands-on activity illustrates the challenges of representing a 3D object as a 2D map, prompting questions about why the orange peel cannot be perfectly flattened without tearing or gaps. Activity 2, 'See, Think, Wonder', encourages critical thinking as students reflect on their observations ('I SEE...'), interpretations ('I THINK...'), and curiosities ('I WONDER...') regarding the relationship between the drawn map and conventional maps, highlighting concepts such as distortion and gaps in representation.
