ACK Word Family Word and Sentence Matching Mats

Building reading comprehension is an important skill for students to learn. This ACK words literacy center contains hands on activities to practice reading single words as well as reading simple sentences.

What is Included:

  • 1 ACK word mat
  • 1 ACK sentence mat
  • Picture cards for matching with each mat

To complete this activity, students will read the word or sentence on each mat and then match the pictures to the correct word or sentence.

Ways to Use:

  • Simply lay the images on top of the word or sentence.
  • Use hook and loop fasteners to attach the images.
  • Use a baking sheet and magnets to attach the images.

Students will love the hands on nature of this activity. They are able to manipulate the images for a tactile approach to demonstrate their learning. These literacy activities allow students to practice the target words in context of sentences as well as in isolation.

ACK Family Emergent Readers

This ACK words decodable reader packet contains three emergent readers that focus on ACK words. These emergent readers provide students practice reading words with ending digraphs

The three books are titled:

  • Jack's Pets
  • I Can Pack A Sack
  • In My Backpack

I Can Pack My Sack is a special reader where students will draw or cut out pictures from magazines to fill their sack. They will write the word of what they packed on the line. Books with plain lines and primary lines are available.

Each digraph book includes a cover page and 5 or more pages for students to read. The stories and sentences in each book contains simple sight words and the target word family, making them easy for beginning readers to have success with making and reading each book.

These books can also be made by the teacher, laminated and placed in a classroom library or reading center for students to read over and over. If students create their own book, it will be a perfect practice reader for students to take home and share and practice their reading skills with parents.

ACK Words Sorting Activities

Need a fun hands on way to practice reading and recognizing ACK words? These sorting activities provide a great way to practice these words with ending digraphs in an engaging literacy center.

There are three different sorting activities to practice learning to read and recognize ACK words.

Sorts Include

  • Sort words that are part of the ACK family from words that are not part of the ACK family.
  • Sort pictures that are part of the ACK family from pictures that are not part of the ACK family.
  • Sort between real and nonsense ACK words.

These low prep sorting activities are easy to create. Simply print the pages, cut out the sorting cards and laminate if desired. By laminating this literacy activity can be used over and over if laminated.

ACK Word Family Clip Cards

This packet contains clip cards for the ACK word family. These clip cards are a great fine motor literacy center or as a Kindergarten phonics center. There are 3 different card types for each picture with several different representation of the words.

Types of Clip Cards

  • The first set of cards have the picture with the beginning sound or blend for the at word and students must clip the correct word family ending to complete the word. For example, the card will have a picture of a hat with h _ _ under the picture. The choices the student will choose from will be like at, ag or am.
  • The second set of cards have the picture with no word and the student must pick the correct word from a choice of 3 different words with the same beginning sound but with different ending word families. For example, students will see a picture of a hat and must choose the correct answer from these choices: hat, ham or han.
  • The third set of cards have the picture with no word and the student must pick the correct word from a choice of 3 different words with the same beginning and ending sound. Only the vowel is different. For example, students will see a picture of a hat and much choose the correct answer from these choices: hat, hit, or hot.

This resource includes 4 ACK words flower template. Each craft has six different petals with words and pictures to help introduce or review the ACK family. There are two ways to use this product:

  • Simply print this paper, allow the students to color, cut out and glue into a flower on colored construction paper.

ACK Word Family Dice Games for Centers or Small Groups

Practice reading and writing ACK word family words with these phonics dice games for ending digraphs. Students will roll the dice then color, trace or write the target word.

What is Included:

By having several different game mats, these dice games are differentiated for students who need more support can be successful as well. These games make great literacy centers or phonics stations.

Ways to Use:

  • Use the tracing pages to trace the word rolled (single player)
  • Use the grid pages to color the word rolled (single player)
  • Create a graph by rolling the dice X number of times and then filling in the blank grid squares. (single player)
  • Three in a Row: Using the grid paper with words, students take turns rolling the dice and coloring the words in the grid. The first player with 3 words in a row wins. (partner game)
