This phonics scavenger hunt is packed with everything you need to get your students practicing essential phonics skills in an exciting, hands-on way. With step-by-step teacher directions, a student-friendly recording sheet, and an answer key for easy assessment, this activity is ready to go! Your students will match Uppercase to Lowercase letters, build fine motor skills as they write lowercase letters, and enjoy the built-in movement. This bundle contains all 26 letters of the alphabet in 2 separate hunts so students can hunt for 13-14 letters at a time instead of all 26 at once. Common Core Alignment:

✏️CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RF.K.1.D: I can recognize and name all uppercase and lowercase letters of the alphabet.

How it Works:

  1. Students may start at ANY card with their pencil and paper on a clipboard. If this is too much to carry: Adjust the activity, by “hiding” the cards around the classroom writing surfaces such as tables and desks and have a pencil at each station.
  2. Write the number of the starting card in the top left square.
  3. Look at the Uppercase letter in the middle of the card. Think about what the lowercase letter match looks like.
  4. Walk around the room searching for the lowercase match in the oval in the top right of another card that matches Uppercase letter.
  5. When found, write the lowercase letter on the line in the first box.
  6. Following the arrow on their paper to box 2, write the number of this card in the box on the top left.
  7. Repeat until all boxes are full. Students should return to starting card when completed.
