There Will Come Soft Rains by Sara Teasdale Foldable Poetry Analysis + answers

By The Red-Haired Reader

This product will allow your students to easily understand and analyze Sara Teasdale's "There Will Come Soft Rains" by breaking it down line-by-line!

Instruct your students to fold the paper in half the long way, and to cut along the black lines into the midline of the paper. They will end up with a long, skinny version of the poem on the front of the flaps, and analysis question inside.

As they read the poem, they will peel back the flap to reveal questions that ask them to analyze the poem for word choice, author’s purpose, syntax, mood, repetition, alliteration, personification, and theme. I've included a suggested answer key for your convenience. Please ask if you have any questions!

There Will Come Soft Rains by Ray Bradbury Tabletop Twitter Silent Discussion

By The Red-Haired Reader

Table Top Twitter is a fun way for students to have a discussion. The only catch is that it is SILENT, and takes place completely on large poster paper. It's an alternate way to do a station rotation!

To set up the activity, you’ll need to copy the 10 large quotes and paste them onto larger poster size paper. Place one at each table or station. You will also need to project the directions onto your Smart Board, or make a copy of them and put them where students can see.

To begin this Tabletop Twitter, students will first read the quote, then write an insightful comment about the quote. I suggest that they can remark on the quote’s significance to the plot, theme, conflict, mood, setting, or characterization. I also insist that they cannot summarize the quote; instead, they must DELVE DEEPER and make an insightful comment! They may also put a hashtag comment for fun after their comment. After a set time you deem appropriate for your students has elapsed, direct them to silently move to the next station.

After visiting all 10 stations, students will return to the station where they began. They will read all the comments and come to a consensus about which comment was the most thought-provoking or insightful. They can also decide which hashtag was the cleverest. Afterwards, you can have them report out to the rest of the class, or do a gallery walk to the other tables to see the final products!

All Summer in A Day by Ray Bradbury analysis station activity + answers

By The Red-Haired Reader

This product includes 7 station activities that address figurative language, setting, character analysis, and making inferences. There is a sign with clearly stated directions to hang at each station (they are the ones with the sun border), and a packet the students will fill out as they rotate. Finally, I have included a journal entry questions for students to complete after viewing the short film (which can be found on YouTube).

The page numbers that are listed in the document refer to the blue Pearson 7th grade text that my school uses. If you are using a different copy of the text, feel free to delete the page numbers and add ones that apply to your version.

An answer key is provided for your convenience!

A Sound of Thunder by Ray Bradbury Mystery Escape Puzzle Breakout Room

By The Red-Haired Reader

Your students will be transported back in time to hunt dinosaurs! They will have to find the various time guides to gather information necessary to prevent the disturbance of the timeline. Only by carefully following all of the employees’ directions will they be able to return to the present, thus successfully completing the escape room!

The seven stations address the elements of the short story, including characterization, symbolism, summary, vocabulary, syntax and diction, foreshadowing, and figurative language. This is a rigorous review and analysis activity. Students should read the text BEFORE they do the escape room.

Ray Bradbury's "The Veldt" Mystery Escape Puzzle Breakout Room!

By The Red-Haired Reader

This “Escape from the Veldt” escape room will have your students analyzing the text for elements of the short story, such as foreshadowing, irony, characterization, figurative language, summarizing, mood, tone, and symbolism, all while having a lot of fun! Students should read the text BEFORE they do the escape room.

Each “station” is represented by an animal from the veldt that they must “escape” from. The answers to each puzzle will be recorded on their answer sheet. After they’ve escaped from each animal, there is one last puzzle they need to solve. Once they do, they’ve successfully escaped from the veldt!

This 32- page product includes everything you'll need: detailed directions for the teacher, animal signs for each station, the activities you'll place at each station, an answer sheet for the students, and an answer key for you! It also includes some ideas for making the experience especially memorable for your students.

The room took about 60 minutes for my students to complete from start to finish. They had a blast! It's a lot of fun, all while analyzing the story! I typically read this short story after reading Fahrenheit 451, but you could incorporate it into any short story unit!

If you'd like to try a free sample of this escape room, please check out my store's primary freebie! The Veldt Mystery Escape Room Free Sample!
