French Prepositions of Location Reading, Writing, Review Task Cards Activity

By Love Learning Languages - French Resources

French Prepositions of Location- Reading and Writing Activity and Practice Cards

As your students learn French prepositions of location it is nice to have several exercises and activities planned to get in as much practice as possible. Read below to see everything that is included in this comprehensive lesson on prepositions of location for beginners. This resource is included in my French Prepositions of Location Bundle.

This resource is also included in my Ça y est, je parle français! French 1 curriculum bundle!

This lesson includes 16 of the most essential prepositions students need when they want to say (or ask someone) where something is located.

Included:

➯ Lesson guide: All of the images on the lesson guide are also included in the Quizlet study set link that you will receive and on the practice cards.

➯ Translation exercise: This exercise looks like the lesson guide, but this time the French is missing! Students are asked to translate sentences from the lesson guide from English to French. Images are included.

➯ Reading and writing activity: This is a reading exercise about a tidy bedroom and a writing exercise about an untidy one. There is a paragraph to read about a tidy bedroom. The idea is to see if you can figure out what it means even if you don't know all of the vocabulary. The prepositions of location are used as context clues. The next part of this activity is to write ten sentences of your own about the image provided featuring an untidy bedroom. A list of useful vocabulary is provided and a quizlet study set as well. This list of vocabulary itemizes everything seen in the bedroom so that you can focus on the writing activity rather than looking up words in the dictionary. This is an excellent way to increase vocabulary.

➯ Practice cards: Use this set of 16 practice cards (French only) to form creative sentences about where things are located no matter where your students may be. I recommend printing the cards and cutting them out so that you can have them handy and ready to use when you feel like it. You can use them to talk about where things are located at home, in your car, in town, at work, at the bookstore... Anywhere!

My students absolutely love this game. They get very excited about it and always look forward to reviewing for quizzes and tests on "Jeopardy Day".

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ “Such a great resource and a super fun  way for students to practice French verbs while feeling like they're not actually doing work!!!”

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ “This game is just incredible!!! So engaging yet so educational! My Grade 7s and 8s are so addicted that I will be buying/playing A LOT of these games this year! This is am amazing resource; worth every single penny!”

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ “I played this class with my Grade 10 Academic Core French class (in Canada). We used it as a test review before a big Imparfait test. They loved it! It engaged even the most reluctant of learners, as they knew they would only be in the "hot seat" briefly. The instructions were very easy to follow and use, and the sound effects were a great touch. My French students loved it so much that they now ask me before every test if our review will be Jeopardy!”

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ “My kids really loved this game! The music and the sound effects got a lot of laughs. Great review prior to an assessment.”

French Daily Journal and Activities - Bell Ringers - Journal Quotidien du Matin

By Love Learning Languages - French Resources

Daily French journals are a wonderful way to start class. You can set this journal up as a bell ringer activity or an early finisher journal. Your students will actively engage in practicing their French in a personalized and meaningful way. You will love this no prep printable daily French journal which includes activities for planning and gratitude. All you have to do is print and go! This French daily work journal provides 200 pages of activities, and it is written completely in French. Take a look at the preview to see all of the details and examples.

Front page activities include the following tasks:

  • Where am I - Où suis-je
  • What's the weather like - Quel temps fait-il
  • French quote of the day
  • List what you must do and want to do - devoir + vouloir
  • Answer the question - J'ai fait de l'exercice - Oui ou non
  • French word of the day - Le mot du jour
  • Counting your steps? J'ai fait _____ pas aujourd'hui.
  • Do something nice for yourself today - Ce que je vais faire pour me faire plaisir
  • Drink water - Je m'hydrate - Je bois au moins 6 verres d'eau par jour
  • Conjugate new verbs every day - Conjugue le verb "______" au temps que tu veux
  • Write sentences - Fais une petite phrase avec le verbe du jour
  • French expression of the day - L'expression du jour

Back page is for writing:

  • Short paragraph - Termine la phrase "_________" et fais un paragraphe.
  • Gratitude - Je suis reconnaissant(e) - 4 choses

200 pages are included. I like to print double sided which gives me 100 days of journaling. If you choose to have your students use these on Mondays, Wednesday, and Fridays, you can use this as a full year program.

This resource saves you valuable time by not having to write journal questions yourself. The sequence of tasks is designed to be repetitive so that the tasks remain familiar and achievable, yet the content changes every day to keep it fresh!

The second half of the pages is more challenging than the first as it includes reflexive verbs (even some idiomatic ones), and the vocabulary is at a higher level.

Watch the video I made so that you can see all of the rich material inside and I can show and tell you how I like to use this journal. You'll see that I printed mine double sided on pretty parchment paper and turned it into a booklet that really feels like a journal, but plain white paper and folders to store them in work just as well.

Expect your students to:

  • enjoy using the journal pages as bell ringers
  • appreciate a no-stress routine at the beginning of class
  • discover lots of new vocabulary and common expressions
  • get their minds focused on French
  • start reading and writing in French as soon as they enter the classroom
  • enjoy completing the tasks and having some time to work independently
  • identify and explore their emotions
  • take an interest in self-care

You will appreciate:

  • not having to reinvent the wheel
  • absolutely zero prep + full year resource
  • extra time at the beginning of class while students are competing daily tasks
  • adding an element of fun to the usual boring daily journals
  • different activities that are still consistent, requiring less explanation time
  • a calm start to the day
  • that each day is different and engaging for the students
  • using this French journal year after year

What teachers like you say about this daily French journal:

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Marvelous! My intermediate low-mid students love this! They enjoy doing this at the start of class and at home on days they don't have class. They are intrigued by the quotes and expressions. They love the changing information and the tracking of their self-care...in French! They do not receive a "grade" for this - by their own choice. They find it relevant and fun! We sometimes use it as a jumping off point for some discussion and for some grammar points. Mostly, though, the students just enjoy keeping track of their daily feelings, self-care, etc. in French!!" - Anne S.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "My French 3 students were so excited when I showed this to them and have eagerly begun this journaling process. We are beginning our class every other day with this activity. I love all the details that you included!" - Rebecca D.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "I've done something similar to this in the past but mine was nowhere near as thorough or well-done. This will be a nice addition to my beginning of class routines." - Shanda H.

PRINTING:

8.5 x 11 letter paper works well for printing this document. All of the pages are black and white and do not require too much ink. I recommend printing the pages double sided. You can bind the pages together with staples, a binder clip, by punching holes in the pages and inserting into a folder, or you can have the pages bound together at a business supply store.

Bataille Navale - Passé composé with AVOIR - Regular verbs

By Love Learning Languages - French Resources

Everyone loves a good game of BATTLESHIP, and the French classroom is a better place than any! You can use this classic game format to practice forming the PASSÉ COMPOSÉ using AVOIR as helping verb with regular verbs.

*There is not an answer key included with this resource due to the number of responses possible. I encourage you to allow your students to use a resource that you choose for them to check your answers.

.

This resource is included in my Ça y est, je parle français! French 1 curriculum bundle!

This resource includes 5 versions of the game with both black and white and color copies and instructions on how to play.

All battleship games are also sold separately for $4 each. Check out my collection of BATAILLE NAVALE games!

Just print out one page of the version you want to use per student. Students place boats (which are squares on the game sheets that they will have darkened with a pencil) on the game board. Students play against each other to try to find and eventually sink their opponent’s boats. Check out game instructions in the preview file.

Subject pronouns are written in the vertical column and infinitives are written in the boxes at the top. To choose a square, the player must say the subject and correct verb form in the passé composé using avoir as helping verb. If you wanted to practice writing in the passé composé you could have your students do that.

All of the vocabulary they’ll need is written right on the game sheet and it is all in French. Each game sheet includes two battleship grids and a line separating the two. Students can fold the paper on the line if they want to. One of the grids is for a player to place his boats and the other is to mark and keep track of his opponent.

You and your students may also enjoy my collection of passé composé resources.

Forming French Questions - Interrogative Words - 9 Dice Games - Jeux de Dés

By Love Learning Languages - French Resources

Finding fun and engaging activities for forming French questions can be a challenge. This is the easiest, most engaging, no prep 30 minute dice game you'll find that your students will LOVE! Nine versions are included. All you have to do is print and go!

Students practice forming French questions using interrogative words and 3 types of questions:

  • est-ce que
  • inversion
  • intonation
  • avec qui
  • comment
  • pourquoi
  • à quelle heure
  • que
  • quoi

Use these games to practice forming questions in any tense, and 4 game boards do not have verbs written in so that you can choose target verbs if you like. Some of the games include noun subjects.

Students divide into teams and play a dice game, the dice determining how to form questions. They roll the dice 4 times to determine the following: type of question, question word, subject or subject pronoun, and an infinitive.

Students write their words and questions on the response sheet. Check out the preview to see exactly how you can use this activity in your French classroom to practice forming French questions with interrogative words.

Included with this activity:

  • How to play
  • 9 versions of the game + 4 on which you can fill in target verbs
  • Student response sheet

Expect your students to:

  • love forming French questions this way and ask for more
  • master est-ce que, inversion, and intonation with interrogative words
  • be fully engaged in the game for a solid 30 minutes
  • learn a lot of new verbs

Included with this resource:

  • nine versions of the game
  • student response and scoring sheet
  • how to play

You will love seeing your students:

  • taking on leadership roles within their groups
  • correcting and helping each other with conjugations
  • actively engaging in this important grammar topic

My students love this game, and it can get very competitive if you decide to play it as a race. Comprehensive instructions are included.

What teachers like you are saying about this French dice game:

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "My students really enjoyed this game, and as I walked around the room the groups had great dialogue happening as they helped each other. I saw a few students take a leadership role in their groups that I hadn't expected."

French Regular ER Verbs Listening Comprehension & Writing Storyboard Activity

By Love Learning Languages - French Resources

If you're struggling to find an original and engaging activity for your beginner French students to practice and review regular ER verbs, you are going to love these listening comprehension and writing activities in the present tense. Peek at the preview for a closer look at these fun storyboard activities which also exist for IR verbs, RE verbs, and in a money saving bundle!

  • Listen to the 15 pre-recorded present tense sentences being read
  • Draw what you hear on the student response sheet provided
  • Write the infinitive form of the verb being used in the sentence

These activities can be used for listening comprehension and written production at the same time, instructions included.

If your students have access to colored pencils you may choose to use the recordings that indicate which color they should use to draw and write. The color they should use is clearly indicated in French at the beginning or appropriate time in the reading of the sentence.

A recording without the use of colors is also included.

Some students will say they can’t draw, but stick figures should be encouraged! None of the sentences represent a real drawing challenge.

Included in this French listening comprehension resource bundle:

  • Instructions
  • Pre-recorded MP3 version of 15 sentences without use of colors - perfect resource to alternatively use as a dictée
  • Pre-recorded MP3 version of 15 sentences with use of colors
  • 15 sentences written for teacher use
  • Student response sheets

No answer keys are provided for the drawings due to the nature of the activity. However, assessment is very simple for the teacher! All you have to do is glance over the drawings. Answer keys are provided for written responses should you opt to use this as a dictation exercise.

What teachers like you are saying about my "storyboard" activities:

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Students enjoyed this activity! It definitely helped them understand vocabulary we've been working on." - French and English Teacher in the US

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "This combines two things that I have a tough time getting right: listening and writing. Most listening things are much too difficult for my F1 students. This is perfect." - Mikal T.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Love this! Great for a variety of grade and ability levels." - Lisa M.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "Nice listening activity, and could be used as a formative assessment." - Tina S.
