Are you looking for a way for students to practice their short vowel CVC words? Then this Feed a Robin activity is a great option.
To play students feed a card, either in picture or word form, to their Robin. Then the student works to segment the sounds by tapping the sounds on the mat, after the student will write his word. For accountability have students record their answers on the recording mat.

Students flip over a card to feed their Robin, they then either read the letter or say the sound(s) for each letter (depending on where your students are), after they use a manipulative to mark the letter.
