This French lesson plan will shed some light on when to use depuis, pendant, il y a, and pour when expressing time, which can be a very difficult topic for native English speakers.

This is a set of 30 French IMPERFECT vs.PASSÉ COMPOSÉ task cards that you can use in a number of ways with your students. There are three types of task cards (see preview): - Write the verb in parentheses in the imperfect tense - Write the verb in parentheses in the passé composé - Decide which sentence is correct, the one in the imperfect or the one in the PC These cards offer an excellent opportunity to see the many ways in which we can use the passé composé as opposed to the imparfait. There's a nice mixture of common regular and irregular verbs to work with. For the passé composé there are verbs using both avoir and être as helping verb. Students can work with a partner as a cooperative activity and to practice speaking or they can work individually to practice writing. Task cards are a nice alternative to worksheets which can sometimes seem tedious or boring. Just print, cut out and laminate these cards and you're ready to go, no prep for years to come! If you look in the upper left corner you'll see a space where you can neatly punch a hole in each card and then connect them with a keyring. This really makes using these task cards easy enough to decide on using at the drop of a hat, and they make for fantastic review. Est-ce que tu as déjà…? This French speaking activity is great for getting French 1 and 2 students to speak and practice their vocabulary when learning about CHEZ LE MÉDECIN . Students will also review the passé composé using AVOIR and ÊTRE as helping verb when doing this activity. Your students will enjoy getting up and moving around the classroom as they ask their classmates questions that are listed on the grid. See full instructions for this resource below. This resource includes: One grid to print out and make one copy for each student in your class. There are sixteen squares on the grid. Each square contains one question and a space to write a classmate’s name. Instructions: Have your students move around the room asking classmates the questions that are written in the squares on the grid that you provide. If a classmate responds with OUI he or she writes his name on the line provided. Complete sentences are encouraged even when the answer is NON. Activity continues until all boxes are filled. Once all of the boxes have been signed your students can turn in their papers. This is a fun, interactive way to review vocabulary about CHEZ LE MÉDECIN and to practice using the passé composé. Just print out one page of the version you want to use per student. Students place boats (which are squares on the game sheets that they will have darkened with a pencil) on the game board. Students play against each other to try to find and eventually sink their opponent’s boats. This game is also part of my Reflexive Verbs BUNDLE - $ SAVER
Subject pronouns are written in the vertical column and infinitives are written in the boxes at the top. To choose a square, the player must say the subject and correct verb form in the present tense. All of the vocabulary they’ll need is written right on the game sheet and it is all in French. Each game sheet includes two battleship grids and a line separating the two. Students can fold the paper on the line if they want to. One of the grids is for a player to place his boats and the other is to mark and keep track of his opponent. This particular activity is different to many French TPRS circling activities because it doesn't tell a story. Instead, this activity focuses on French verbs, the pronouns LE - LA - LES - LUI - LEUR - Y - EN, possessive adjectives, and other less frequently used words that students will acquire through meaningful repetition. Each series of sentences is spoken in the present, passé composé, and futur proche tenses, and different forms of negation are included. Read on to see how you can easily differentiate this activity by using video, audio, and practice cards. Have a look at the video preview to see this activity in action!

Research reveals that language learners need MANY repetitions of grammatical structures in order to truly acquire them. By using the circling method, familiarity with the word or phrase is done through repetitive questions circling around the target language.

Here's how it works:

• I speak a sentence: Le chien ne veut pas de ses croquettes. Il n'en veut pas.
• I tell students to restate the sentence using a different subject pronoun: Les chats
• Students restate the sentence making necessary changes: Les chats ne veulent pas de leurs croquettes. Les chats n'en veulent pas.

3. Practice cards for online use to work on reading and writing - 360 cards

Step 1: Watch the video lesson / activity to learn about the circling method. Students will quickly catch on, and will truly need to concentrate so that they can make the necessary changes in their sentences. Do your students ever tell you that they can understand what's being said, but can't think fast enough to make the necessary changes when responding? That's exactly why you should have them try out circling!

Step 2: Once they've watched the video and have done the exercise while reading along, try out the audio only version! This will be a challenge as they will not be able to see the words, and it will help with listening and speaking skills.

Step 3: Use the set of cards to practice reading and writing. Read the cards that I have spoken in steps 1 and 2, and have students take the time to write their responses before looking at the answer cards. As the cards are not numbered, I encourage you to download them and use them online rather than printing.

This classic game is simple to modify and use both with beginners French students and advanced French students. I've used Taboo games in the classroom for years and it's always a hit. I've made my own cards with carefully chosen taboo words!

In this classic version of the game there is no particular vocabulary theme. 100 French-English cards are included.

EXPECT YOUR STUDENTS TO:

• have loads of fun
• learn new French words
• review vocabulary
• make sentences and ask questions in French

Step 1

• Print the cards, cut them and laminate
• Use the file for projecting on a tablet you can pass around as a class activity
• Print or study ahead of time using the vocabulary list provided

Step 2

Beginner students should be allowed to use the TABOO words printed on the cards. This will encourage them to use new vocabulary and will help them in forming sentences to use as clues.

• Make teams of 2 or 3 students
• Set a guessing time, 2 or 3 minutes or alternate turns
• One team names a first reader the opposing team a checker - whose role is to make sure no taboo words are used.
• The reader tries to have his teammates guess the word at the top without using the taboo words. For beginners you can choose to let them use the taboo words
• They score a point for each word guessed

Object of the game

One player or team tries to get his teammate to guess the words related to the first word. The player must give clues in FRENCH. Teams score points for each word successfully guessed in 3 minutes. Here's how the QUEL DOMMAGE game works:

STEP 1

• Print the game cards on heavy paper or card stock and cut them out.
• Laminate the cards

STEP 2

• Put all of the game pieces in a box and divide your students into small teams.
• Give each team gets a box of questions and a copy of the answer key.
• Students must replace the underlined words in the sentences with pronouns (for example) and say the sentence correctly. When they are correct, they get to keep their game card. However, when they draw a QUEL DOMMAGE card they have to put all of their game cards back in the box.
• The student with the most game cards at the end is the winner.

✮ Role play or skit situation cards for French, Spanish or any language class ✮

This is a set of 12 situation or skit cards that your students can use to practice making conversation in French, Spanish or any other language. Students work in pairs and read the situations they are to talk about. Each card includes a situation and suggestions as to what kind of information they should include. All of the cards are written in English, and students adapt by speaking in the target language.

I like to have my students write out the information asked for on each card. Once they have the basics covered they can then take turns being the one asking questions and the one providing answers.

These role play cards are an excellent way to practice conversation when you don't exactly know what the other person is going to say in response. Excellent resource for private tutoring sessions for students who have a hard time with oral production.

Est-ce que tu as déjà…? This French speaking activity is great for getting French 1 students to speak and practice their vocabulary when learning about LA FAMILLE. Students will also review the present tense of AVOIR when doing this activity. Your students will enjoy getting up and moving around the classroom as they ask their classmates questions that are listed on the grid. See full instructions for this resource below. This resource includes: One grid to print out and make one copy for each student in your class. There are sixteen squares on the grid. Each square contains one question and a space to write a classmate’s name. Instructions: Have your students move around the room asking classmates the questions that are written in the squares on the grid that you provide. If a classmate responds with OUI he or she writes his name on the line provided. Complete sentences are encouraged even when the answer is NON. Activity continues until all boxes are filled. Once all of the boxes have been signed your students can turn in their papers. This is a fun, interactive way to review vocabulary about LA FAMILLE and to practice using AVOIR. These 30 questions are just right for students who need to practice the IMPERFECT TENSE, and they are a perfect no prep speaking activity for busy teachers. Each EST-CE QUE question uses the TU form with verbs in the present tense. In addition to regular and irregular -ER, -IR and -RE verbs I've also included many irregular verbs.

In order to avoid OUI and NON answers, each question also includes an interrogative word which is great practice in helping to remember what they mean and where they're placed in the sentence.

Since all of the questions are asked in the TU form, all of the answers will be in the first person singular. This is so that students can really focus and get used to using these verbs when talking about themselves and when talking to a friend.

Just cut out the 30 cards, punch holes in the spaces provided and attach the stack of cards with a key ring. It would be a great idea to print on card stock and laminate the cards before punching holes and attaching them. Super easy and no prep for years to come. Both black and white and color versions are included as well as a 2 page print out of the questions if you should decide to use them as a quiz or homework assignment.

Repetition is key in learning a language, and that's why I've created many different versions of these speaking cards. All of the cards ask the same basic questions, but each time in a different tense. My students really appreciate the familiarity of the cards even when learning a new tense.

Teaching French daily routine - routine quotidienne vocabulary?  Looking for an engaging way to get your French students to build their communication skills and vocabulary? Taboo is a fun French speaking and listening game where one student has to guess a word based on clues given in French by other students. The catch is that they cannot mention anything that is included in a list of taboo words. Reflexive verbs are included!

All of the words on each card are written in French and English. This is very useful as many of the words will be new to students whether they are beginners or very advanced. You can easily modify this game to play it with all levels!  You are going to love hearing your students speaking in French to each other about la routine quotidienne.

Classic French Taboo Games Bundle - 3 Versions

Object of the game:

One player tries to get his teammate to guess the word at the top of a card. The player must give clues, but he can't use any of the Taboo words in his description. The taboo words are written beneath the underlined word at the top of the card.

Teams score points for each word successfully guessed. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins.

Beginner students should be allowed to use the French TABOO words printed on the cards. This will encourage them to use new vocabulary and will help them in forming sentences to use as clues.

French passé composé reflexive verbs scrambled sentences exercise

This French passé composé reflexive verbs worksheet is a no prep printable that you can use to have your students putting words in the correct order to form grammatically sound sentences using reflexive verbs in the passé composé. 10 sentences are written in the passé composé, and some include negation. The vocabulary used in this exercise is varied and doesn't follow a particular theme. It's not meant to be super easy, and this exercise is not a repeat of the present tense version. Answer key is included.
