J'ai...Qui a... French Antonyms Activity - I have...Who has

This game includes 39 cards. Depending on class size you can give each student more than one card or have them play in small groups. I recommend printing out and laminating these cards if possible so that you can use them over and over again.

How it works: Once each student has a card (or cards), the one who has the card that says Je commence le jeu begins the activity. He says, for example, Je commence le jeu. Qui a un antonyme pour absent? The person who has the card with J'ai présent on it says, J'ai présent. Qui a un antonyme pour vivant? And so the game goes on until the last card is called and that student's card will say, J'ai _____. Le jeu est terminé!

Another idea is to prepare two sets of cards, divide your class into two groups and let each group have a go to see which team can get through the entire deck of cards the fastest. It's a very engaging and fun activity!

French Antonyms Worksheets

Two one page worksheets for identifying French antonyms. Each worksheet includes eight sentences in which students must identify the opposite words and write them in spaces provided. The grammar used in these worksheets is varied, and would be perfect for an immersion setting or for core French (but not for beginners). Answer keys are provided. French Antonyms - Opposites - Google Forms Quiz

This is a short answer French quiz on antonymes - opposites. 20 questions are included. Students read a question in French and write the one word answer (the opposite word). This Google Forms quiz is printable if you prefer. This resource is included in my French Antonyms Bundle.

Instructions: Only write the opposite words in French to fill in the blanks. Write them in the masculine and singular form. Don't forget accent marks. No punctuation is required.

Exemple: Si ce n’est pas présent c’est quoi? C'est _____!

Réponse: absent

This Google Form includes 15 short answer questions, and is easy to edit if you prefer. Instructions are included (see preview).

French Antonyms - Opposite Words

Learning opposite words is a fantastic way for students to increase their French vocabulary. This resource includes 135 words to learn. You'll get a downloadable list that you can distribute, and links to two study sets to help students practice and master all of these words. Have them start with the French - English set, then move on to the French - French set for a real challenge! This resource is included in my French Antonyms Bundle.

Students can have some fun while learning this huge list of really useful French words and their opposites as they work on 4 crossword puzzles. The puzzles give the English word and ask for the French equivalent. IMPORTANT: Only masculine forms of adjectives are used, and no accent marks are required. Answer keys are included.

Now for a real challenge that is a lot of fun with a partner or small group! Download your set of 135 practice strips, print, and hook together with a ring. You're going to really up their game with all of this new vocabulary! It's a nice break to move away from the screen sometimes. You'll be able to pull these out and have your students practice at any time.

Here's an example of what they say:

Si ce n'est pas beau, c'est quoi?

Answers are to be given in complete sentences. For example:

Si ce n'est pas beau, c'est moche!

You'll also get three sets of practice cards (64 cards each) which will allow students to see how these antonyms are used in context.  One set is for reading aloud with or without a partner.  The other sets require students to fill in the blanks with the missing opposite words.  

Example:

SET 1:  "Mon sac est trop lourd."  "Enlève des livres et il sera plus léger."

SET 2:  "Mon sac est trop lourd."  "Enlève des livres et il sera plus _______."​
SET 3:  "Mon sac est trop _______."  "Enlève des livres et il sera plus léger."​

Test your students' French reading comprehension while giving them lots of exposure to French antonyms / opposites. This quiz is written in the present tense and passé composé. With this French reading passage and comprehension questions, your students will see lots of opposites in action!

This French reading Google Forms quiz includes ten multiple choice questions. Students read the text carefully and reply to the comprehension questions. This is not an absolute beginner level quiz. Making inferences, connections, and predictions are part of the reading comprehension exercise.
