This is a set of 20 advanced level French dictées. These dictations are short dialogues between two people, read by François, a native Parisian. The dialogues are read slowly first and then even more slowly to give students time to write them down. Punctuation and links (liaisons) between words are pronounced.

⭐ First reading:   Moderate pace, don’t write yet

⭐ Second reading:  Slow pace, listen and write

⭐ Third reading:  Normal pace, check your work

Have your students equipped with a pen and paper and give them plenty of time to check their work. On the third reading, the dialogues are read at full speed with proper spoken French intonation at the end of each dictation exercise. Students should pay close attention to spelling, gender, plurals and agreements when writing.

Play these exercises in class with a group and self check, use them for assessment, or you can even assign them as homework.

Students can practice repeating the sentences for correct pronunciation.  They can even record themselves and compare their pronunciation or work as a group role play.

Chéri, tu n'aurais pas dû prendre cette route ! Tu sais bien qu'il y a toujours des bouchons par ici à cette heure-ci.

Are you looking for a French dictée - dictation exercise with a dans la rue theme for your beginner level students? Do you struggle to find themed dictées that match beginner level French grammar?

Dictées are great activities for building listening comprehension and writing skills. This is a beginner level French dictée with a dans la rue theme.

Included:

• Eight sentences
• Theme - Dans la rue
• Basic grammar
• Present tense - avoir, préférer, être, prendre, pleuvoir, faire, aller, travailler
• Basic negation
• Pronoun Y appears twice
• Giving directions vocabulary
• Definite, indefinite, and partitive articles

Included:

➯ Video presentation of the dictée. Watch me and listen as I read each sentence two times slowly enough to understand and write at the same time. Many non-natives find it makes the listening comprehension part of dictation exercises more manageable to see the speaker's mouth. Once I've finished reading the dictation, I will present each written sentence in French along with the English translation. Once we've gone through all of the sentences and students have checked their work, I will present the complete text in paragraph form on the screen. At that time, we can slowly read through the complete text together so they can see how the separate sentences actually form a short story.

➯ Audio presentation of the dictée.. Listen as I read each sentence two times slowly enough to understand and write at the same time. This version of the exercise will be more challenging as students will not see the speaker's mouth.

➯ PDF of the numbered sentences in the dictée and the English translation.

➯ Numbered student response sheet. This is located on page 2 of the PDF.

This beginner level dictée has 80 words, follows the theme of le marché, and includes the following grammar:
