This is a set of 30 French IMPERFECT vs.PASSÉ COMPOSÉ task cards that you can use in a number of ways with your students. There are three types of task cards (see preview): - Write the verb in parentheses in the imperfect tense - Write the verb in parentheses in the passé composé - Decide which sentence is correct, the one in the imperfect or the one in the PC These cards offer an excellent opportunity to see the many ways in which we can use the passé composé as opposed to the imparfait. There's a nice mixture of common regular and irregular verbs to work with. For the passé composé there are verbs using both avoir and être as helping verb. Students can work with a partner as a cooperative activity and to practice speaking or they can work individually to practice writing. Task cards are a nice alternative to worksheets which can sometimes seem tedious or boring. Just print, cut out and laminate these cards and you're ready to go, no prep for years to come! If you look in the upper left corner you'll see a space where you can neatly punch a hole in each card and then connect them with a keyring. This really makes using these task cards easy enough to decide on using at the drop of a hat, and they make for fantastic review. Are your students struggling with conjugating the irregular French verb être in the imperfect tense? Let them revise and have fun with this traditional game!

In order to win, students connect four boxes by filling them in with the correct conjugations of the verb être, which is listed at the bottom of the game board. Subject pronouns are listed on the left.

Students take turns filling in boxes until four are connected. At this point, they can check their work using the answer key provided. If any of the conjugations are incorrect, the game continues. Full instructions are included.

These 30 questions are just right for students who need to practice the IMPERFECT TENSE, and they are a perfect no prep speaking activity for busy teachers. Each EST-CE QUE question uses the TU form with verbs in the present tense. In addition to regular and irregular -ER, -IR and -RE verbs I've also included many irregular verbs.

In order to avoid OUI and NON answers, each question also includes an interrogative word which is great practice in helping to remember what they mean and where they're placed in the sentence.

Since all of the questions are asked in the TU form, all of the answers will be in the first person singular. This is so that students can really focus and get used to using these verbs when talking about themselves and when talking to a friend.

Just cut out the 30 cards, punch holes in the spaces provided and attach the stack of cards with a key ring. It would be a great idea to print on card stock and laminate the cards before punching holes and attaching them. Super easy and no prep for years to come. Both black and white and color versions are included as well as a 2 page print out of the questions if you should decide to use them as a quiz or homework assignment.

Repetition is key in learning a language, and that's why I've created many different versions of these speaking cards. All of the cards ask the same basic questions, but each time in a different tense. My students really appreciate the familiarity of the cards even when learning a new tense.

This is a set of 30 French imperfect tense task cards that you can use in a number of ways with your students. Each card has a French verb in the infinitive form and a sentence with a blank. Students must fill in the blanks with the correct form of the infinitive in the imperfect tense. These cards offer an excellent opportunity to see the many ways in which we can use the imparfait in French. Students can work with a partner as a cooperative activity and to practice speaking or they can work individually to practice writing. Task cards are a nice alternative to worksheets which can sometimes seem tedious or boring. Just print, cut out and laminate these cards and you're ready to go, no prep for years to come! This really makes using these task cards easy enough to decide on using at the drop of a hat, and they make for fantastic review. French Imperfect Tense - Google Forms Quiz or Exercise

This is a French quiz on forming the imperfect tense. There are 25 short answer questions. Students read sentences in which the verbs in parentheses are written either in the present, passé composé or futur proche tenses. They need to determine the infinitive, and then write it in the imperfect. This Google Forms quiz is also printable.

This resource is included in my French Imperfect Tense Bundle.

Instructions:

Write the verbs in parentheses in the imperfect tense.

You will see the verbs written in the present, passé composé, or futur proche tenses, so you'll need to think about what the infinitive is before rewriting it in the imperfect.

This can be tricky: Don't forget that when the verb is written in the passé composé, it's not the helping verb that you need to rewrite. Also, when the verb is written in the futur proche, it's not the verb aller that needs to be written in the imperfect.

Only write the verbs, not the subjects. Don't forget to include accent marks when necessary.

This Google Form is easy to edit if you prefer. Instructions are included (see preview).

French Passé Composé vs Imparfait Exercises

This resource includes three exercises in which students must choose between the passé composé and the imperfect tenses. Clue words are included to help students correctly choose between these two tenses.  Each exercise includes ten sentences and should be read as a short story. These exercises are included in my French 3 bundled resources.

To provide differentiation, I'm including two versions of each exercise. The first version offers multiple choice answers (passé composé or imperfect), and is strictly for choosing between the tenses. The second version is more difficult as students have to choose the correct tense and conjugate the verbs.

These exercises include regular and irregular verbs, être and avoir as helping verbs, and reflexive verbs.

STEP 1

• Print the game cards on heavy paper or card stock and cut them out.
• Laminate the cards

STEP 2

• Put all of the game pieces in a box and divide your students into small teams.
• Give each team gets a box of questions and a copy of the answer key.
• Students must replace the underlined words in the sentences with pronouns (for example) and say the sentence correctly. When they are correct, they get to keep their game card. However, when they draw a QUEL DOMMAGE card they have to put all of their game cards back in the box.

Dictées are great activities for building listening comprehension and writing skills. This is a beginner level French dictée about "quand j'étais petit".

Included:

➯ Video presentation of the dictée. Watch me and listen as I read each sentence two times slowly enough to understand and write at the same time. Many non-natives find it makes the listening comprehension part of dictation exercises more manageable to see the speaker's mouth. Once I've finished reading the dictation, I will present each written sentence in French along with the English translation. Once we've gone through all of the sentences and students have checked their work, I will present the complete text in paragraph form on the screen. At that time, we can slowly read through the complete text together so they can see how the separate sentences actually form a short story.
