This French lesson plan will shed some light on when to use depuis, pendant, il y a, and pour when expressing time, which can be a very difficult topic for native English speakers.

This resource includes a link to my 20 minute video tutorial on YouTube, a two page lesson guide that is useful whether you choose to show the video or not, and 50 practice cards that you can either print and cut out to have students work in small groups or that you can project for a whole class activity. Passé composé - Irregular Verbs - Avoir Auxiliary - 40 Cards - Distance Learning

This resource will help students practice and master 35 common, irregular French verbs that all use avoir as a helping verb (see a list of the verbs included below). Negation is included: ne...pas - ne...plus - ne...jamais - ne...personne - ne...rien. This resource is included in my Passé Composé Mega Bundle.

Included:

➯ 35 numbered practice cards - One per page for online learning

➯ 35 numbered practice cards - Four per page for printing

➯ Numbered answer key with English translations of each sentence

➯ Chart showing 35 French verbs: Infinitive - English - Past Participle + Space to write a short sentence using each verb in the passé composé.

STEP 1: Download and distribute chart which includes a link to a Quizlet study set for practicing irregular past participles. Once students are familiar with the irregular past participles, move on to STEP 2.

STEP 2: Download and distribute the practice cards. Each numbered card instructs students to restate a sentence written in the present tense in the passé composé. Have students check their work using the answer key provided. English translations are included so that students can learn about sentence structure as they practice the passé composé.

STEP 3: Go back to the chart you downloaded in STEP 1 and have students write short sentences using each verb in the passé composé.

French Passé Composé with Avoir - Regular Verbs - 75 Practice Cards

This resource includes two sets of 75 task cards for practicing the passé composé of regular ER, IR, and RE verbs. Half of the cards in each set use negation (ne...pas / ne...jamais / ne...pas encore) and the other half do not. One set of cards includes hints as to what the infinitives mean as well as an English translation, and the other set does not. I like to let my students use the cards with the hints as they're becoming comfortable with the rules and the infinitives used on the cards. Once they've gone through the set a few times I like to switch to the set with no hints. They'll learn so many more regular verbs than they ever would in a textbook. French Advanced Negation Speaking and Listening Cards

This resource includes 2 sets of 50 negation speaking cards for a total of 100 cards that you can cut out and have students use in pairs or small groups. I recommend printing out and laminating these cards if possible so that you can use them over and over again. I've also included a PDF with only one card per page for projecting or using with tablets when you want to do a whole class activity or paired work without printing.

This resource is included in my French Negation Bundle.

SET 1: On each card there is a question for student #1 to ask to student #2. The assumed answer is written on the card, but students should be reminded that sometimes more than one answer is possible.

SET 2: This set asks the same questions as SET 1, but the cards do not include assumed answers. An answer key is provided.

Since there are so many cards included, this activity can last a while and give your students an opportunity to really practice a lot.

I've included reminder cards that you can cut out and distribute to students while they do this activity. The reminder cards list the following types of negation:

➯ ne . . . plus

➯ ne . . . rien

➯ ne . . . jamais

➯ ne . . . personne

➯ ne . . . pas encore

French Prepositions Before Infinitives - À, DE, or NOTHING at all

Certain French verbs must be followed by DE, À, or NOTHING when an infinitive comes next. This lesson includes common verbs that are used on a regular basis.

TRÈS IMPORTANT: This is a lesson about French verbs when followed by infinitives and not nouns.

All of the following is included in this resource:

➯ STEP 1: Download the 5 page lesson with examples in French and English.

➯ STEP 2: Download the cheat sheet which is a handy one page reference document that lists all of the verbs from the lesson with English translations.

➯ STEP 3: Students read the list of verbs on the left, and in the spaces provided on the right indicate whether they’re followed by à, de, or nothing when used with infinitives. Next, fold the paper in half on the dotted line, and use it as a practice chart.

➯ STEP 4: Exercise 1 - Fill in the blanks with À, DE, or NOTHING at all. Answer key included.

➯ STEP 5: Use this Quizlet study set to practice memorizing which verbs are followed by À, DE, or NOTHING. This set includes fun games and tests to evaluate your progress.

➯ STEP 7: Students practice making their own sentences using the verbs from the lesson with this set of 60 speaking cards. Each card indicates a subject, verb, and when necessary À or DE. Every time they pull out the cards to practice, they can use a different infinitive. Half of the cards feature different forms of negation:

Common, short French ADVERBS in 3 tenses - Lesson guide - 75 practice cards

This resource focuses on teaching and practicing 25 common, short French adverbs in the present tense, passé composé, and futur proche. Where to place these adverbs in sentences can be surprising to students since placement of adverbs is very different than in English. There are lots of examples in French and English included in my video lesson (here's the link to my free lesson).

This resource is included in my French Adverbs Bundle.

• 75 numbered practice cards with answer key
• 10 page lesson guide to accompany the video lesson (great for a last minute substitute teacher lesson plan)
• Quiz: The same 75 sentences from the practice cards, but this time they're in FRENCH and are written without adverbs. The adverb to be used is in parentheses, and students have to place it correctly in the sentence. Use the same answer key as for the cards.

Step 1: Download, print, and distribute the 10 page lesson guide.

Step 2: If you wish, have your students watch my 35 minute video tutorial on short, common French adverbs. They will learn how to use these 25 adverbs in the present tense, passé composé, and futur proche.

Step 3: Download your set of 75 translation practice cards to give your students a true challenge. An answer key is included so that students can work individually, with partners, or in small groups and check their own work.

Step 3: Administer the quiz and see how much your students have learned!

French Direct and Indirect Object Pronouns - 75 Practice Cards

75 cards to practice using French direct and indirect object pronouns in three different tenses. These practice cards focus on using: LE - LA - LES - LUI - LEUR. These practice cards will help students better understand when to use LE or LA to mean HIM or HER instead of LUI, and LES to mean THEM instead of LEUR.

Each card indicates the tense to be used: présent, passé composé, futur proche

Each card indicates a subject pronoun, verb in the infinitive form, and another word or words to complete the sentence. Students first form a sentence using the elements provided, then they restate the sentence using either a direct or indirect object pronoun. A two page answer key is provided. I recommend printing them on the front and back side of one sheet of paper so that you can easily distribute them to students so that they can check their work. This is an activity that students can work on alone or in pairs or small groups. My students really like to do this activity with a partner. One student says the sentence without the pronoun, then the other one says it with the pronoun. They take turns going back and forth.

Je parle à Maris.

Je lui parle.

PASSÉ COMPOSÉ - TU - MANGER - PIZZA

We all know how difficult it can be for students to know when to use the correct form of DE when they don't know all of the rules and when they've not had enough practice. This is a complete lesson plan that you can even use on a day when you can’t be at school and you have a sub who isn’t a French teacher.  This resource includes a 30 minute video, and you just need to click here to see it on YouTube.

French imperative with & without pronouns 50 practice cards - Distance Learning

The following practice cards are part of my comprehensive imperative mood lesson:

➯ 50 practice cards. This set of cards will help students truly master the French imperative with and without pronouns and negation. All cards are numbered, and there's a numbered answer key. I'm including 3 PDF versions to fit your teaching needs: 1 per page with answers shown on every other slide, 1 per page with no answers (refer to numbered key), 4 per page with no answers to print and cut out.

This is a lesson on how to make affirmative and negative commands in French both with and without pronouns. Students will learn that when they want to use double pronouns with the imperative, a few things change. The following resources are available individually or as a money saving bundle. You may choose to teach this lesson yourself or use my free 41 minute video lesson if you have to be absent, want to use it for distance learning, or if you have a sub who doesn't speak French. I have created all of the following resources to make a comprehensive lesson plan that will help students practice and master the French imperative.

Teacher and Student Instructions:

STEP 1 ➯ Download the 9 page lesson and follow it closely while teaching how to use pronouns with the imperative. The lesson includes all of the essential rules beginning with the formation of the imperative and finishing with affirmative and negative commands with pronouns and double pronouns. To keep your students on their toes as you teach, move ahead to STEP 2 before distributing a copy of the lesson for them to add to their French folder.

STEP 2 ➯ Download the 9 page cours and distribute a copy to your students. They can use it to follow along and take notes while listening to you teach the lesson. There are spaces for them to fill in missing information that they will learn as you explain everything. Taking their own notes will help them retain the new information.

STEP 3 ➯ Recorded listening comprehension exercise - TU. Distribute the worksheet and students should be ready to write as they are led through an audio exercise. Students will hear a sentence being read beginning with ​_Tu veux...._​ Listen carefully for the verb being used, and restate the sentence using the imperative. In this exercise, use the TU form every time, and no pronouns are used. Answer key included.

STEP 4 ➯ Recorded listening comprehension exercise - VOUS. Distribute the worksheet and students should be ready to write as they are led through an audio exercise. Students will hear a sentence being read beginning with ​_Vous voulez...._​ Listen carefully for the verb being used, and restate the sentence using the imperative. In this exercise, use the VOUS form every time, and no pronouns are used. Answer key included.

STEP 5 ➯ Recorded listening comprehension exercise - NOUS. Distribute the worksheet and students should be ready to write as they are led through an audio exercise. Students will hear a sentence being read beginning with ​_Nous voulons...._​ Listen carefully for the verb being used, and restate the sentence using the imperative. In this exercise, use the NOUS form every time, and no pronouns are used. Answer key included.

STEP 6 ➯ Written translation exercise - English to French - This exercise is meant to be simple and really focuses on what was taught in the lesson. A 5 minute audio file is included in which I walk students through the exercise and provide explanations just as you would in a classroom setting. This can be especially helpful if students are distance learning and need further help with the written work. You may wish to listen to my explanations and use some of my ideas when explaining the work yourself.

STEP 7 ➯ Written translation exercise - English to French - This exercise is for advanced learners or for those working at a higher level. This exercise will provide a challenge! It includes the imperative with pronouns and double pronouns with and without negation as well as other advanced level grammatical structures. A 9 minute audio file is included in which I walk students through the exercise and provide explanations just as you would in a classroom setting. This can be especially helpful if students are distance learning and need further help with the written work. You may wish to listen to my explanations and use some of my ideas when explaining the work yourself.

STEP 8 ➯ Written exercise - Reformulate French sentences and transform them into imperative commands. A 14 minute audio file is included in which I walk students through the exercise and provide explanations just as you would in a classroom setting. This can be especially helpful if students are distance learning and need further help with the written work. You may wish to listen to my explanations and use some of my ideas when explaining the work yourself.

STEP 9 ➯ Written exercise - Give commands using double pronouns. An 11 minute audio file is included in which I walk students through the exercise and provide explanations just as you would in a classroom setting. This can be especially helpful if students are distance learning and need further help with the written work. You may wish to listen to my explanations and use some of my ideas when explaining the work yourself.
