Test your students' French reading comprehension while giving them lots of exposure to using a variety of regular French verbs conjugated in the passé composé with avoir. With this French reading passage and comprehension questions, your students will see many different ways to use verbs that use avoir as a helping verb.

This French reading Google Forms quiz includes ten multiple choice questions. Students read the text carefully and reply to the comprehension questions. This is not a beginner level quiz. Making inferences, connections, and predictions are part of the reading comprehension exercise.

50 French passé composé task cards - Regular verbs

French passé composé tense task card set with 50 different cards to get your students moving around the classroom while practicing the passé composé tense of regular -ER, -IR, and -RE verbs. Only regular verbs are used in this set of task cards. Students will complete various tasks and write their answers on the answer recording sheet. Some cards will have them conjugating in the passé composé, others will have them filling in the blanks, writing original sentences about the past, answering multiple choice questions and more. This resource will help students practice and master 35 common, irregular French verbs that all use avoir as a helping verb (see a list of the verbs included below). STEP 1: Download and distribute chart which includes a link to a Quizlet study set for practicing irregular past participles. Once students are familiar with the irregular past participles, move on to STEP 2.

STEP 2: Download and distribute the practice cards. Each numbered card instructs students to restate a sentence written in the present tense in the passé composé. Have students check their work using the answer key provided. English translations are included so that students can learn about sentence structure as they practice the passé composé.

STEP 3: Go back to the chart you downloaded in STEP 1 and have students write short sentences using each verb in the passé composé.

French Passé Composé with Avoir - Regular Verbs - 75 Practice Cards

This resource includes two sets of 75 task cards for practicing the passé composé of regular ER, IR, and RE verbs. Half of the cards in each set use negation (ne...pas / ne...jamais / ne...pas encore) and the other half do not. One set of cards includes hints as to what the infinitives mean as well as an English translation, and the other set does not. I like to let my students use the cards with the hints as they're becoming comfortable with the rules and the infinitives used on the cards. Once they've gone through the set a few times I like to switch to the set with no hints. They'll learn so many more regular verbs than they ever would in a textbook. This card game is an excellent way to practice and memorize verb conjugations, and it will have your students speaking to each other in French the whole time! In the deck of 42 cards there are 7 families of 6 cards (je - tu - il - nous - vous - ils).

One player distributes five cards to each player (2 to 4 per group). The rest of the cards are placed in the "pioche". One player begins the game by asking another player to give him a card. He might say, "Dans la famille DANSER, est-ce que tu as J'AI DANSÉ?" or "Dans la famille PARLER, est-ce que tu as NOUS N'AVONS PAS PARLÉ?"

The goal is to come up with a complete family. If the player doesn't have it, he says "pioche". If he draws the card that he asked for, he can continue to play and ask someone for another card. Each time a player comes up with all six members of a family, he can make a stack. At the end of the game, the player with the most sets of families wins!

Here's how the QUEL DOMMAGE game works:

STEP 1

• Print the game cards on heavy paper or card stock and cut them out.
• Laminate the cards

STEP 2

• Put all of the game pieces in a box and divide your students into small teams.
• Give each team gets a box of questions and a copy of the answer key.
• Students must replace the underlined words in the sentences with pronouns (for example) and say the sentence correctly. When they are correct, they get to keep their game card. However, when they draw a QUEL DOMMAGE card they have to put all of their game cards back in the box.
• The student with the most game cards at the end is the winner.

Everyone loves a good game of BATTLESHIP, and the French classroom is a better place than any! You can use this classic game format to practice forming the PASSÉ COMPOSÉ using AVOIR as helping verb with regular verbs.

*There is not an answer key included with this resource due to the number of responses possible. I encourage you to allow your students to use a resource that you choose for them to check your answers.

This resource includes 5 versions of the game with both black and white and color copies and instructions on how to play.

Just print out one page of the version you want to use per student. Students place boats (which are squares on the game sheets that they will have darkened with a pencil) on the game board. Students play against each other to try to find and eventually sink their opponent’s boats. Check out game instructions in the preview file.

Subject pronouns are written in the vertical column and infinitives are written in the boxes at the top. To choose a square, the player must say the subject and correct verb form in the passé composé using avoir as helping verb. If you wanted to practice writing in the passé composé you could have your students do that.

All of the vocabulary they’ll need is written right on the game sheet and it is all in French. Each game sheet includes two battleship grids and a line separating the two. Students can fold the paper on the line if they want to. One of the grids is for a player to place his boats and the other is to mark and keep track of his opponent.

French Passé Composé Verb Race Game - Regular Verbs with Avoir

Verb Race is a fun and very exciting way to practice conjugations. Your students are going to love this set of 75 regular passé composé French verbs to use in the fast moving verb race game. This set includes 75 common -ER, -IR and -RE verbs that all use avoir as helping verb.

Classic verb race involves dividing the class into teams and one person from each team goes up to the board to conjugate faster than everyone else. I've included full instructions, tips and rules with this resource. Verb Race has always been a huge favorite in my classroom.

In classic Verb Race it is usually the teacher who moderates the game, but in the instructions I'll explain in great detail how you can play a student led game so that even your weakest students can participate and learn a ton.

You can easily make a stack of -ER, -IR and -RE verbs using them as separate games until all three sets have been learned at which point you can put them back into one big stack.

This French exercise is a no prep printable that you can use to have your students putting words in the correct order to form grammatically sound sentences using regular ER verbs in the passé composé with simple negation. There are 9 sentences to unscramble, one per subject pronoun.
