Are your students struggling with conjugating the irregular French verb devoir in the passé composé? Let them revise and have fun with this traditional game!

In order to win, students connect four boxes by filling them in with the correct conjugations of the verb DEVOIR, which is listed at the bottom of the game board. Subject pronouns are listed on the left.

Dictées are great activities for building listening comprehension and writing skills. This is a beginner level French dictée about studying, work, languages, and nationalities.

• Infinitives - parler, travailler, faire
• Passé composé - finir, étudier

➯ Video presentation of the dictée. Watch me and listen as I read each sentence two times slowly enough to understand and write at the same time. Many non-natives find it makes the listening comprehension part of dictation exercises more manageable to see the speaker's mouth. Once I've finished reading the dictation, I will present each written sentence in French along with the English translation. Once we've gone through all of the sentences and students have checked their work, I will present the complete text in paragraph form on the screen. At that time, we can slowly read through the complete text together so they can see how the separate sentences actually form a short story.

➯ Audio presentation of the dictée. Listen as I read each sentence two times slowly enough to understand and write at the same time. This version of the exercise will be more challenging as students will not see the speaker's mouth.

➯ PDF of the numbered sentences in the dictée and the English translation.

➯ Numbered student response sheet. This is located on page 2 of the PDF.

Just print and go with this French board game, worksheet, crossword, and sudoku activity to conjugate the irregular stem verb pouvoir in the futur simple. The board game includes 37 numbered boxes. The first player to reach box 37 wins. No prep for you! Take a look at the preview for full details on everything that is included, and save with the bundle!

Board Game: Some boxes require students to conjugate the verb using the provided subject pronoun, and others require them to name the subject pronoun that matches the verb conjugation. Lots of repetition will really help them to memorize the French verb pouvoir in the futur simple. There are a few fun tricks along the way, so getting to the end isn’t always so easy.

In groups of two to four, players take turns rolling a die to move their pieces forward. Spaces are numbered to keep track of which way they’re moving. There are some spaces with special instructions:

• Départ - Start
• Avance de 5 cases - Move forward 5 spaces
• Recule de 5 cases - Move backward 5 spaces
• Rejoue - Play again
• Tu perds ton tour - Lose a turn
• Fin - End

For an extra challenge and to extend playing time, you can tell your students that they have to land directly on the last square and answer it correctly to win. 

Worksheet: One page worksheet - Half of the page requires students to fill in subject pronouns, and the other half requires them to conjugate the verb. This is a great way to prep for the board game!

Crossword: One more excellent way to review this irregular stem in the futur simple.

Sudoku puzzle: Your students will review this irregular verb stem and exercise their brains in a different way with a sudoku puzzle!

Devoir - Irregular Futur Simple French Tic Tac Toe Games - No Prep Printable

Tic Tac Toe is a fun game that your students already know how to play, and it is a simple way to get them conjugating, writing, and speaking the irregular verb devoir in the futur simple.

This resource includes two worksheets with 6 tic-tac-toe grids per page. One worksheet is for speaking answers, and the other one is for writing them. Photocopy on the front and back for a no-prep set of 12 grids for differentiated learning.

Students play in pairs, conjugating devoir so that it agrees with the subject pronoun in each box, saying answers aloud or writing them to claim squares on tic tac toe grids. Three correctly conjugated verbs in a row wins the game. Students need to use different colored pens or markers when writing their answers.

Conjugate Vouloir - Present Tense French Conjugation Board Game

This French board game for conjugating vouloir in the present tense includes 37 numbered boxes. The first player to reach box 37 wins. There are a few tricks along the way, so getting to the end isn’t always so easy! Some boxes require students to conjugate the verb using the provided subject pronoun, and others require them to name the subject pronoun that matches the verb conjugation. Lots of repetition will really help them to memorize this very important verb! Check out my growing bundle for more verb conjugation board games in the present tense.

In groups of two to four, players take turns rolling a die to move their pieces forward. Spaces are numbered to keep track of which way they’re moving. There are some spaces with special instructions:

• Départ - Start
• Avance de 5 cases - Move forward 5 spaces
• Recule de 5 cases - Move backward 5 spaces
• Rejoue - Play again
• Tu perds ton tour - Lose a turn
• Fin - End

For an extra challenge and to extend playing time, you can tell your students that they have to land directly on the last square and answer it correctly to win.

This low prep French grammar and conjugation game about devoir, vouloir, pouvoir is a fun way to encourage your French beginner students to keep up with the grammar they learn.

Quel Dommage French grammar and verb games add a little competition and fun to grammar. Your students will also practice speaking and pronunciation! Devoir, vouloir, pouvoir are crucial to forming a strong base knowledge of French, yet it can be difficult to master without lots of practice and review.

Detailed instructions are included so that your students can play even when you need to be away and a sub has your class.

Here's how the QUEL DOMMAGE game works:

STEP 1

• Print the game cards on heavy paper or card stock and cut them out.
• Laminate the cards

STEP 2

• Put all of the game pieces in a box and divide your students into small teams.
• Give each team gets a box of questions and a copy of the answer key.
• Students must replace the underlined words in the sentences with pronouns (for example) and say the sentence correctly. When they are correct, they get to keep their game card. However, when they draw a QUEL DOMMAGE card they have to put all of their game cards back in the box.
• The student with the most game cards at the end is the winner.
