la Toussaint - spooky stuff Halloween escape game for French learners
By Frenchified
Make learning about la Toussaint interesting with this no-prep digital escape game. The game includes access to a website where your students will hunt for the keys to unlock a set of locks. Students will need to read the clues very carefully and watch videos, visit websites, and read texts to find the information they need to win the game. Very easy to use - just send your students to the website and let them work! Students can play individually or in teams.
This game about la Toussaint is in English so even your level 1 students can enjoy learning about the holiday and other spooky legends in France.
Digital escape games are a fun way to start a unit, or to review at the end of a unit. They can also be used to learn about a cultural or historical event. This game will have your students reading carefully and paying attention to the smallest details in order to complete the challenge and unlock the locks.
This item includes:
Your students will enjoy learning without even realizing that they are learning! The challenging game format will get them excited about finding the code to unlock each lock - and the format of the clues for each lock will have them paying close attention - there's no way to solve the puzzles without being 100% focused!
Topics in this game include:
Prep is very easy - you just need to share the website URL with your students. You may want to test the site before you use it, just to make sure nothing is blocked by your district. As some of the clues can be challenging to unlock, you may choose to help your students with the trickier ones. With the teacher guide, you will have the answer key - so you can help guide students towards the correct answer by giving them hints, or if you have limited time, you can adjust the game by reducing the number of locks they need to unlock - just give them the answer(s) to help the activity fit your time constraints.
Note that if you are playing this on Oct 31/Nov 1, the sites get VERY busy. I have made many backup sites, but even those may get slow at times. Also, the French source sites may get overwhelmed on certain dates as well, but there is nothing I can do about that.

French digital escape room Veteran's Day Armistice - Le jour du Souvenir
By Frenchified
Note: If you purchased this game in the past, please be sure to update a new copy as the date for one of the clues has changed!
French digital escape games can be a fun way to practice the language and learn about the history and culture of the French-speaking world. Learn about the holiday of l'Armistice/Le Jour du Souvenir in this digital game for French learners.
November 11 marks the anniversary of the Armistice ending the fighting in World War 1 and is known as Le Jour du Souvenir. This digital escape game teaches students about the events of that day as well as how we remember those who sacrificed so much. Topics include:
What's included:
The game includes two different version: one that is entirely in English, and one that has the clues in English (since it can be difficult for non-native speakers to catch the nuances in the clues) but the sites and videos where they will find the answers are in French. Students will know that they have the correct code to unlock each lock as the form will tell them if they are correct or incorrect. They can show you that they've solved the puzzles by taking a screenshot of the final screen.
The teacher guide includes instructions on how to reach the site, directions on how to play the game, and the answer key for the French and English games just in case you get stuck. There are two different websites where the game is hosted - one in Google sites, the other hosted on digitalescapegames.com. Please check on your school network before you assign the game to your students, as some networks do block access to sites hosted outside of your district's network.
What teachers have said about this French digital escape game:
"My students really enjoyed this game! It was extremely challenging, but they were so satisfied when they solved the clues. It really encouraged them to read closely. I did have to give them a few hints. I only used the English version because even that took a long time for them to solve. I did feed them the clue to the date lock because in 2020, I figured it would be pretty impossible to lead them to the date from 2019. This was the first escape room activity I've done and I will be doing more!"

Digital French ghost game Le fantôme du Manoir passé composé with avoir
By Frenchified
Your students will enjoy practicing the passé composé with avoir in this French haunted house game! As they complete the tasks, they will gather the objects needed to free the ghost from the house. The game is self-grading and students will need to get all of the answers correct in order to move on. While there are a couple of instances of the passé composé with être, most of the verbs use avoir.
There are 5 different challenges. The tasks will have students using different skills to practice the passé composé. Each task will help the student gather a meaningful family object.
Task 1: Listen to the audio and put the images of life events in the correct order.
Task 2: Read the information about when the people were born and died and find the correct portrait - a great numbers review!
Task 3: Put the correct past participle in the paragraph to complete the story.
Task 4: Play "memory" to match the French sentences with the English translations.
Task 5: Match the irregular past participle with the infinitive verb.
At the end of the game, the students will have 5 different object. They will put those objects in front of a family tomb to free the ghost and no longer have a haunted house. As the game does not track student data, you will want them to take a screenshot as proof of completion.
