This resource includes 7 different activities that focus on the folktale and retelling the story. Activities are: an 8-page emergent reader (in 2 sizes), write the room to write a story (includes words to display and a work page to write beginning, middle and ending before writing the story), a color by number page, a word search, a color by word page, a triorama art project and a comic page to retell the story with pictures and words. This is also a great resource to use as emergency sub plans!

PLEASE NOTE: It is important to choose a fun read-aloud book to introduce the Johnny Appleseed unit. The emergent reader provided does not include all details that are important when learning about Johnny Appleseed and folktales.

Your students will love sharing what they are reading while also digging into the elements of the story and story structure. With this seasonal book report craft included you will have everything you need to keep your students responding to reading in a fun and engaging way.

This fall book report craft includes a story structure graphic organizer to help your students recall the elements of a story they have read. This engaging book report activity helps students focus on identifying elements in the story like title, author, setting, characters, beginning, middle, and ending. This resource can be used with any book you choose. Perfect for a whole class read-aloud, a small group book study, or for students to complete as part of a book they choose during independent reading.  It can be completed as a whole group, in a reading center, or as a small group activity for students to work on collaboratively. 

Use the completed book report template or story structure worksheet as a bulletin board display or classroom “show what you know” wall. You will never need to search for another bulletin board idea! Instead, let your students' work be center stage while still adding some seasonal and holiday fun to your bulletin boards. Your students will love seeing their work on display.  It’s such a fun way to get your students excited about learning how to identify the story elements within a book.

Here are TWO fun math projects perfect for your Johnny Appleseed unit! There are two pictures from which to choose. There are also four different pages of math problems (for each picture) so you can choose the operation and level of difficulty for your class. There are addition, subtraction, and three addend addition. Students solve the equations and use the key to color the patterns on the picture. You can actually do this more than once and use a different page of problems each time. ANSWER KEYS ARE INCLUDED.
