French Colors and Clothes Battleship Games - Bataille Navale

Use this classic game format to have your students practice les vêtements et les couleurs vocabulary. This is a NO PREP activity, just print and go. 5 versions of the game using 40 different vocabulary words are included.

Students randomly place ships on their grid at the top of the sheet by drawing filled in circles. The number of circles for each of their six battleships is indicated at the top of the page. As they try to discover the location of their opponent's ships, they use the grid on the bottom of the sheet to keep track. Instructions are provided in English on each page. Have a look at the preview to see what these games look like.

A list of 8 vocabulary words is written in the left column, and the masculine and feminine forms of 8 colors are written on the top. Students randomly match the words on the left with colors at the top while making adjective agreement.

There is not an answer key included with this resource due to the number of possible responses.

Growing Bundle of Bataille Navale Games

This resource includes 40 different vocabulary words related to the theme. You get five versions of the game.

How to play:

Print out one page per student of the version of this game that you want to use. Students draw circles to represent their boats on the grid at the top of the game board. Students play against each other to try to find and eventually sink their opponent’s boats.

Eight clothes / vêtements vocabulary words are written in the vertical column and masculine and feminine forms of eight colors are written in the boxes at the top. To choose a square, the player must say a word on the left and a word at the top using the correct form. Indefinite articles indicating the gender of each word are included.

All of the vocabulary they’ll need is written right on the game sheet. Each game sheet includes two battleship grids, one for the student and one for keeping track of guesses.

30 question cards are included. Almost all of the est-ce que questions are asked in the tu form and require students to reply using je. Some of the questions encourage oui and non responses, but never without pushing for a bit more information like asking pourquoi. The questions include le présent, le passé composé et le futur proche.

All cards are visually stimulating and feature a circle to punch out in the upper left corner so that you can print, laminate, cut out, punch holes and hook the cards together with a ring. Using these cards this way makes it easy to pull them out year after year to use as NO PREP speaking activities.

There are many ways you can use this set of task cards:

➤ Print, laminate, cut out, punch holes and attach on a ring for small groups to ask and answer questions.

➤ Use as a warm-up speaking activity with a conversation partner. As students enter the classroom have them choose 2-3 cards from a box.

➤ Students who finish their work earlier than others can choose a few of the cards and write out correct answers to false statements.

➤ Use as exit tickets. Give each student a card before the end of class and as they walk out of the room they tell the teacher their answer.

➤ Stations: Put students into groups and divide the cards amongst them. Have groups rotate to a new station as they finish the cards.

➤ Scoot: Put one card on each desk in the classroom. Give each student a response sheet and set a timer to give them just enough time to answer true or false and to correct the false statements. When the timer rings students move on to the next desk and the next question. All cards are numbered so it is simple to stay organized. Full instructions are included.

➤ Use the cards with board games. Students must answer a question in order to move.

➤ Use the cards as an icebreaker activity at the beginning of the school year or right after school holidays.

➤ Great resource for tutoring sessions and vocabulary building.

French Numbers 1 - 20 and Clothes Battleship Games - Bataille Navale

Use this classic game format to have your students practice les nombres 1 - 20 et les vêtements vocabulary. This is a NO PREP activity, just print and go. 5 versions of the game are included.

Teaching French vêtements - clothes vocabulary?  Looking for an engaging way to get your French students to build their communication skills and vocabulary? Taboo is a fun French speaking and listening game where one student has to guess a word based on clues given in French by other students. The catch is that they cannot mention anything that is included in a list of taboo words.

All of the words on each card are written in French and English. This is very useful as many of the words will be new to students whether they are beginners or very advanced. French Taboo Games Growing Bundle

Classic French Taboo Games Bundle - 3 Versions

Object of the game:

One player tries to get his teammate to guess the word at the top of a card. The player must give clues, but he can't use any of the Taboo words in his description. The taboo words are written beneath the underlined word at the top of the card.

Teams score points for each word successfully guessed. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins.

Beginner students should be allowed to use the French TABOO words printed on the cards. This will encourage them to use new vocabulary and will help them in forming sentences to use as clues.

Est-ce que tu as déjà…? Have you ever...? This French speaking activity is great for getting French 2 and 3 students to speak and practice their vocabulary when learning about LES VÊTEMENTS. Students will also review the passé composé using AVOIR as helping verb when doing this activity. Your students will enjoy getting up and moving around the classroom as they ask their classmates questions that are listed on the grid. See full instructions for this resource below. This resource includes: One grid to print out and make one copy for each student in your class. There are sixteen squares on the grid. Each square contains one question and a space to write a classmate’s name. Instructions: Have your students move around the room asking classmates the questions that are written in the squares on the grid that you provide. If a classmate responds with OUI he or she writes his name on the line provided. Complete sentences are encouraged even when the answer is NON. Activity continues until all boxes are filled. Once all of the boxes have been signed your students can turn in their papers. This is a fun, interactive way to review vocabulary about LES VÊTEMENTS and to practice using the passé composé. This is a one page printable this or that / ceci ou cela activity with a VÊTEMENTS theme. There are 12 options, and students circle their preferences. The directions encourage them to explain POURQUOI to spark conversations about their choices. Can also be used as a taboo game

Playing a guessing vocabulary game is a great way to get students to speak French and learn a lot of new vocabulary. This game is simple to modify and use with beginners and advanced students alike. The theme of this guessing game is LES VÊTEMENTS. 35 French only cards are included.

These cards are a lot of fun and your students will learn new vocabulary and practice speaking in French in a positive and friendly way! Here’s a couple of ideas on how to use these cards. You will see that these cards will give you a lot of opportunities and ways to teach your students!

⇨ Guessing game : Play in teams 2 to 6 players in the classroom. Each team has 5 minutes and try to guess the 5 words on the card drawn. Each completed card is a point.

⇨ Taboo: Speaking Game: Same rules as above, but one member of the team tries to describe the top word without saying any of the 5 taboo words.

⇨ Alternate play for beginners, allow them to use the taboo words when describing the top word.

This is a really fun game to practice with your students who are learning vocabulary about LES VÊTEMENTS, and it involves NO PREP. I've included both a beginner and intermediate version of the game. The beginner version has the words written out and the intermediate version only shows pictures. Have a look at the thumbnails to see what they look like.

Each version includes 38 cards. Depending on class size you could either give each student more than one card or have them play with a partner. I recommend printing out and laminating these cards if possible so that you can use them over and over again.

Here's how this game works. Once each student has a card (or cards), the one who has the card that says JE COMMENCE starts the game. He says, for example, Je commence. J'ai le pantalon. Qui a les chaussures? The person who has the card with shoes on it says, J'ai les chaussures. Qui a le costume? And so the game goes on until the last card is called and that student's card will say, J'ai fini!

Another idea is to prepare two sets of cards, divide your class into two groups and let each group have a go to see which team can get through the entire deck of cards the fastest. If the vocabulary is completely new you could start out with the beginner deck and as the words become more familiar you could move on to the intermediate level. It's really a lot of fun, and though you can play with younger students the older ones love this game just as much.
