Spanish Fall Otoño Activities for Writing and Speaking & Listening

These Spanish fall activities will get your students talking, writing and listening about otoño, Halloween and Día de los muertos in an engaging way. Practice both presentational and interpersonal speaking and writing while keeping students producing lots of Spanish! Give them comprehensible input with comprehension questions that are either open-ended or self-correcting MCQ!
Use these resources in all of your levels! They’re already differentiated! Those days when you’re just exhausted, progress reports were due, you were correcting benchmarks, when you need sub plans.... And now you don’t have a great lesson plan for tomorrow? No worries! These activities will get you through! And best of all- students will be working hard in the target language and having fun!
The writing prompts are awesome! They are differentiated for Novice High and Intermediate Low students. Each level has 2 prompts; one about Halloween and another about Día de los muertos. This resource comes with
-vocab lists to students with season-specific vocab
-graphic organizer
-ideas for how to make this a group task (for less correcting for you!)

The Open-Ended Task Cards are also amazing! They are so versatile and can be used in so many ways! There are 20 different prompts related to fall themes and they encourage creativity with their language. Vocab that may be unfamiliar is given right on the card! Here are some ideas about how you can use them.
-print them. Pass them out to your class. Ask each student to do a 10 minute free write.

-Display one card for the class. Everyone writes about that topic. (Great for a warm-up each day!)

The Listening Activity is authentic, curated to make sure it's appropriate for students, and comes with 2 options for comprehension questions! Students will listen to a short video about tips for starting a new school year. You can assign the open ended questions (answer key included) or you can assign the Edpuzzle version with Multiple Choice Questions that are self-grading.
The Día de los muertos vocab puzzle is a great way to practice vocab related to this holiday. Students use their mouse (or cursor) to manipulate digital puzzle pieces and match up vocabulary terms to put the puzzle together!

Spanish Back To School Authentic Listening Comprehension Activity

Authentic listening activities with comprehensible input for Spanish class can be so hard to find! We want our students to practice their listening skills but we don’t want to spend an hour searching for a good video! This YouTube video is about 5 tips for starting a new school year. A young person gives us 5 ideas about how to have a successful start to the year. This activity makes a great way to dive back into Spanish at the beginning of the year!
To check comprehension, students will answer questions as they watch, either in open-ended format or via an Edpuzzle with self-correcting multiple choice questions. Students will answer basic comprehension questions as well as personal response questions to help them make connections to their own lives. An answer key is also included!

- Play the video for the class on a projector or Smartboard
- Assign the video via Google Classroom or other learning platform
- Assign the open-ended comprehension questions by printing or posting to a learning platform
- Assign the Edpuzzle MCQ version via the website or via a student learning platform like Google Classroom
- Use this as a class activity, homework, sub plans or assessment!
What’s included in this product?
- A link to a YouTube video about how to get off to a good start at the beginning of a new school year. The speaker is a young person to whom our high school students can relate (2 minutes)
- A print or post open-ended comprehension activity
- Questions in the comprehension activity are in English. I did this on purpose so that students cannot simply copy what they hear (and potentially not understand what it means)
- Questions ask for details about what the speaker said and also ask student to make their own conclusions and comparisons
- Answer key included!

Día de los Muertos Spanish Vocab Digital Puzzle Fall Activity & Sub Plan

Día de los muertos is a holiday that fascinates our students! Use this Drag and Drop vocab puzzle to work WITH them instead of against them! Print or display the vocabulary list of terms related to the celebration of Day of the Dead. Then, let each student drag and drop the puzzle pieces to form a 4 x 3 puzzle that matches the Spanish words with their English translations. It’s not as easy as it looks!! But your students will be focused and learning new vocabulary the whole time!

Spanish Scenarios Task Cards for Fall Otoño Speaking and Writing

These Spanish Task Cards are geared towards Fall activities, vacations and events. Situation Task Cards are a great, NO PREP way to get your Spanish 1, 2, 3 and 4 students using language creatively! They have open-ended prompts for students to use while speaking or writing. (These are generic enough to be used with any curriculum!)
There are 20 different scenarios which give students an idea of what to talk about in a story that they make up. The task cards come in 3 versions! First I have a large scale digital version that can be displayed for the class. The other version is printable (4 cards per page) and comes in both black and white and an attractive color version.
These Fall situation task cards feature scenarios for present, past and future time frames. Google Slides can be modified if you need to change something to meet your students’ needs!
Also included is a peer feedback sheet and a self-assessment sheet and a vocab list for Fall vocabulary!

How can I use this product?
- Teacher ideas included in the slides!
- Pair students and have them take turns telling stories based on their scenario
- Ask students to give peer feedback or self-assess
- Display task cards on your Smartboard for the class. Have one partner make up a story. Set a timer and challenge them to try to talk the entire time! Change the slide and have the other partner take a turn!
- Use these task cards as multiple versions of a speaking assessment. This allows for student choice and/or prevents students sharing the exact task for advance preparation.
- These task cards can also be used for writing prompts or assessments!

Spanish Fall Themed Collaborative Writing Prompts for Novice and Intermediate

Are you practicing presentational writing skills with your Spanish students? How about a Group Challenge that focuses on either Día de los Muertos or Halloween?! This fun and engaging writing challenge will get your students to work together in small groups to produce high quality writing! This resource includes appropriate writing prompts for years 1, 2 and 3. Planning done for your whole day!
What I love about writing in this format is that teachers can provide specific feedback and even a grade in about ⅕ of the time! We can improve students’ skills and confidence by using peer discussion to clear up confusion about things like conjugating verbs and word order in sentences too! This is a high impact activity to use with your students!
This resource features 4 writing prompts at 2 levels: Novice High and Intermediate Low. For both there is a writing prompt based on Day of the Dead and Halloween. There are lots of extras included too!
