"I Spy" Telling Time game for whole and half hours, and all the quarters

By Ms Garcia Store

An exceptionally designed educational tool for first-grade students who are in the process of learning to read the time. The game combines fun and learning to reinforce understanding of o'clock, half-past hours, and all the quarters.

Preparation: Print an 'I Spy' sheet for each student or pair, along with the 48 different hours, including the 12 "o'clock," the 12 "and a half," the 12 "quarter past," and the 12 "quarter to." For added durability, laminate them, allowing for reuse on future occasions.

Numbering: Choose 9 of the 48 cards and number them from 1 to 9 using an erasable marker. Each card contains a space where the corresponding number can be placed.

Classroom Arrangement: Distribute the 9 sheets with the selected times around the classroom, ensuring they are visible to the students.

Gameplay: Instruct your students to complete their 'I Spy' sheets individually or in pairs. Each sheet contains 9 analog clocks and 9 digital clocks. They should draw the clock hands on the analog clocks with an erasable marker and write the corresponding time on the digital clocks.

You can customize the game's dynamics according to your preferences, whether by promoting cooperation among students or encouraging friendly competition.

If they wish to play again, replace the 9 clocks used with any of the remaining 39, providing a constant variation and ongoing fun while learning to read the clock.

With 25 intriguing questions and answers focused on telling time, this resource is fully editable, allowing you to tailor the Q&A to suit your unique teaching goals. The default questions provided serve as an example that can be effortlessly modified to fit any level or time-related topic.

Interactive and Easy to Use:

  • This Jeopardy game operates within PowerPoint, offering an immersive full-screen experience for your students.
  • Gameplay is user-friendly—simply click on the buttons to reveal the questions, and an automatic scoreboard eliminates the need for manual scorekeeping.

How to Play:

  1. Divide your students into up to 5 teams to foster a healthy spirit of competition.
  2. On slide number 3 (HOME), discover 25 banknotes ranging from $100 to $500. Clicking on any banknote will unveil a different question.

Example of Gameplay:

  • The question is always the same, "What time is it?", but the time displayed on the analog clock varies each time.
  • To determine the correct answer, click on the girl, who will reveal the digital clock displaying the time.
  • If a team answers a $300 question correctly, click on the "+$300" button to automatically add their points to the scoreboard. For incorrect answers, click on "-$300" to deduct points.
  • To ensure fairness, each turn, a different team selects a banknote, which will then disappear from the chart to prevent repetition.

Victory and Learning:

The team with the most dollars when the banknotes or time runs out emerges as the triumphant winner, having sharpened their time-telling skills along the way!

How to Edit the Questions and Answers:

  • Access the Selection Panel in PowerPoint to modify questions and answers seamlessly.
  • Customize the analog clock's time by making the appropriate clock hands visible (e.g., for 5:45, display "5:48" and ":45").
  • Adjust the digital clock's time by making the relevant numbers visible (e.g., for 5:45, display "ZERO" for the first number, "FIVE" for the second, "forty" for the third, and "five" for the fourth).

Enhance your students' time-telling prowess with this interactive and customizable Telling Time Jeopardy game! Get your hands on it today and witness the joy of learning in action!

User Note:

Please be aware that this is a PPTM file, and enabling Macros is necessary for the scoreboard to function correctly. If you're not familiar with PPTM files (PowerPoint files habilitated for Macros), kindly refrain from purchasing this product.

Bilingual telling time practice English and Spanish/ Analog and digital clocks

By Ms Garcia Store

PowerPoint tool to practice the telling time with your students. You can link it to your class calendar if you want. It doesn't work on Google Slides.

When you click on the button "Enter", you activate the analog clock and its clock hands start spinning until you click "Enter" again. Then, the message "What time it is?" and its translation to Spanish "¿Qué hora es?" appear so the students can practice answering the question.

Now set the time in the digital clock so both clocks have the same hour (click on the green arrows to do it). They can do it as many times as you want.

You have two video links to practice the telling time singing. One is in English and the other is in Spanish.

Instructions: The slide requires the use of the mouse or the mouse path.
