Create a one page worksheet on the Code of Hammurabi. I want students to look at the different laws and determine if the laws were fair and explain their reasoning. I also want students to make some kind of connection between Hammurabi's laws and the laws of today and what Hammurabi's law tells us about Babylonian time.
This document examines the Code of Hammurabi, one of the earliest known legal codes established by the Babylonian king Hammurabi around 1754 BCE. It presents various laws, such as those regarding the punishment for eye-for-eye justice, responsibilities of builders, and theft, prompting discussions on their fairness and relevance. Additionally, the document makes connections to modern laws, exploring how legal principles have evolved while reflecting on the societal structure of ancient Babylon. Through analyzing these ancient laws, readers gain insights into the values, social classes, and daily life of Babylonian society.
