Canada is divided into seven main geographical regions, each with unique characteristics and environmental features. These regions include: 1. **Canadian Shield**: The largest region, spanning approximately 5 million square kilometers, made predominantly of hard rocks, featuring numerous lakes and islands, stretching across eastern and central Canada. 2. **Western Cordillera**: A mountainous area about 800 kilometers wide, covering around 1.6 million square kilometers and extending from southern British Columbia to the Yukon. It is characterized by diverse landforms and the prominent Coast and Rocky Mountains. 3. **Canadian Arctic**: Located north of the Arctic Circle, this cold region of about 2.1 million square kilometers is defined by permafrost and glaciers, comprising several geographical subdivisions. 4. **Appalachian Region**: Spanning 360,000 square kilometers along the eastern coast, it consists of ancient eroded mountains and lush valleys, home to various communities. 5. **Interior Plains**: Encompassing 1.8 million square kilometers, this flat area lies between the Canadian Shield and the Western Cordillera, featuring grasslands and transitioning to forested landscapes further north. 6. **Hudson Bay Lowlands**: A flat, wet area of about 320,000 square kilometers surrounded by Hudson Bay, characterized by ponds and marshes. 7. **St. Lawrence Lowlands**: The smallest region, it covers 180,000 square kilometers and is the most populated area in Canada with fertile land suitable for agriculture.
