The Haudenosaunee Confederacy, also known as the Iroquois Confederacy, is a historical alliance of six Native American nations: Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, Seneca, and Tuscarora. Their democratic governance is one of the longest-standing in the world, rooted in the Great Law of Peace, which emphasizes harmony and justice. Known as the 'People of the Longhouse,' these nations are celebrated for their sustainable agricultural practices, particularly the cultivation of the Three Sisters: corn, beans, and squash. The matrilineal nature of their society grants Clan Mothers significant authority, shaping their community leadership. This resource also encourages students to explore the importance of decision-making and consensus in Haudenosaunee culture through role-playing activities.
