Help me create a lesson about Love and Kindness for a 9th grade High school AVID class. Emphasize kindness/friendship love not romantic. Include reading passages or student testimonials, impacts based on statistics, and an activity where for step 1 they label hearts with encouraging words/phrases to place around the school, and step 2 is making a creative valentines day card for a staff memeber, classmate, friend, or family member with supplies provided.
This lesson focuses on the importance of friendship, kindness, and compassion in creating a supportive community. Students will analyze how acts of kindness impact individuals and groups, and will engage in activities to express kindness to peers and the broader school community. The lesson emphasizes two forms of love: Philia (friendship love) and Agape (compassionate love), highlighting their roles in fostering a sense of belonging. Through personal reflections and testimonials from peers, students will understand the significance of kindness in their own lives and in reducing bullying within the school. Activities include creating messages of encouragement and appreciation to spread kindness throughout their environment.
