Writing an awesome introductory paragraph will set the student up for an organized, quality argumentative essay. Use this activity as you teach students how to follow the rules and requirements of this open-ended task on the AP® Test. There are 2 different introductory paragraphs (one really good, and one missing some important elements). Below each paragraph is a checklist of items that should appear in every good intro paragraph. Students will read and judge for themselves which one is better. In the process they can explain why one is great and the other will not set the writer up for success.
