Need an AP Spanish cultural identity project that explores our own identity and that of others?  In AP Spanish® Unit 2, La influencia de la lengua y la cultura en la identidad, students learn what deeply held beliefs, values and practices they and people from the Spanish-speaking world hold.  In this project, students choose one aspect of cultural identity that interests them.  They research how people in a specific Spanish-speaking country (also of their choice) live that value.  They will compare and contrast the way Hispanic people in that country live out that value with how Americans live out that value.  To show what they learned, Spanish students  will create an oral presentation supported by visuals to present to the class or a small group.

The project instructions and rubric are created in Google Docs so teachers can modify to fit the needs of their students.

How can I use this product?

• Increase engagement and interest by allowing students to choose things like: what value, what country, work alone or with a partner
• Assign the project well in advance of the due date
• Allow students to do some research and work during class time to assist with questions or confusions
• Use the final product as a practice presentation or as a formative or summative grade
• Depending on class size and time, ask students to present to the whole class, present to a small group, or record their audio so that you can listen and grade it outside of class
• Ask students to take notes on other students’ presentations
• Turn what they learn into an opportunity for a cultural comparison!
