Use real acorns in this nonstandard weights and measurements task card activity set. This Kindergarten measurement center allows students to compare weight and measure lengths and heights by using nonstandard units.
Task Cards Included
These task cards use a variety of easy to find materials to compare the weights of acorns with common classroom supplies. The same materials are also used in the measuring length.
Here is the list of materials needed to do all of the task cards.
The following materials are needed to complete these task cards: acorns, balance scale, base ten blocks (or small wooden blocks), bottle of glue, building bricks, crayon, coins, counting cubes, dice, dominos, dot markers, erasers, glue stick, marbles, marker, paint brush, paper clips, pencil, and a toy car.
When to Use
Skills Assessed
The task cards, by themselves, are low prep and just need to be printed and cut apart. They can be laminated for durability if desired. By storing the cards and acorns in task boxes, teachers will have an easy to set up and clean up activity. Gathering the necessary materials may take some time, but once gathered, this becomes a fun, hands on math center to practice nonstandard measurements.
