Get your students involved in exploring and providing solutions for Africa's Population Boom! This lesson includes a fun Human Twister intro activity, cooperative learning reading activity, chart population activity, and "**Share What You Learned "**exit card for the wrap-up. Students will be actively engaged through the entire lesson, working cooperatively with one another to examine issues and complete tasks. This lesson includes 14 pages of detailed teacher instructions, a Human Twister Introductory activity, a reading assignment, and fun enhancement activities, as well as a group share wrap-up activity.
OBJECTIVES:
· Understand the cause and effect of rapid population growth in Africa.
· Explore economic, political, cultural, and environmental issues leading to and as result of rapid population growth
of Africa.
· Examine the consequences of Africa’s rapid population growth.
· Explore the capabilities of improving the level of living in the midst of Africa’s rapid population growth.
MATERIALS NEEDED:
In preparation, the teacher will need to create the large floor circles for Twister and have a timer for the reading activity.
Human Population Twister Game (Introductory Activity)
One of each: yellow, green, blue, and red circles placed on the floor in each corner of the room or wherever you have space for a large number of students to stand and to which they can easily move. It is suggested to cut out each circle —24 inches in diameter— and laminate them so that the circles do not tear and can easily be reused.

How Fast Are These Countries Growing? (Cooperative Group Chart Activity)
Task Card or Accordion Activity: Students can choose which one they wish to complete or the instructor can choose which one best works for his/her students. Note: Both cover the same questions.
