Students will learn about cause and effect by sorting quotes from the story into pairs. Each pair will include a cause and its effect. They will work together in small groups to complete this activity. Afterwards, there is a paragraph response reflection question asking the students to determine which set of quotes did the most to advance the plot and conflict.
To prepare for this activity, you will need to cut the quotes into strips for each group. I have included directions to give to each group or project on the Smart Board, as well as an answer key for your reference. The page numbers after the quotes refer to the 6th grade yellow Pearson text that my school uses, but if you are reading a different version of the text, feel free to remove them.
