This no-prep worksheet activity task has been designed to enhance geographical knowledge of the Gallipoli Peninsula and first hand account of the initial landings at Gallipoli during World War One. This resource is designed to provide students with a deep understanding of the campaign, its geographical context, and the experiences of those who were part of it.

The task encourages students to not only learn about the events but also empathize with the people involved, making the learning process more meaningful and interesting. It includes primary source extracts that offer firsthand accounts of the landings on the 25th of April 1915, providing a glimpse into the experiences of the soldiers and the conditions on that fateful day.

Resource:

  • A world map activity where students locate and highlight Australia and Turkey.
  • A detailed map activity of the Gallipoli Peninsula, where students annotate key geographical locations such as the Aegean Sea, Canakkale, Lone Pine, Anzac Cove, Cape Helles, The Dardanelles, and The Narrows.
  • Two primary source extracts detailing the landings on the 25th of April 1915, providing firsthand accounts of the experiences of the soldiers.
  • Guided questions that encourage students to reflect on the emotions and experiences of the soldiers.
  • An exercise to examine the details of the two sources and provide the context of the sources.
