Black History Art Projects Howardena Pindell | Women's History Art Projects

This resource contains a total of 4 cross-curricular art projects inspired by the artwork of contemporary African American artist Howardena Pindell. Designed for Kindergarten - 5th grade students, it may be used for Black History Month (February), Women’s History Month (March), a unit on shapes, or anytime of year.

These engaging projects can also repurpose students’ unfinished artwork of recycled materials making it perfect for a recycling or Earth Day project.

This resource is in a PDF file and contains 18 pages. It includes:

  • Cross-curricular lesson with detailed instructions and photos for 3 projects plus 1 BONUS recycled project

  • Suggestions for project and material variations

  • Cross-curricular and literacy connections

  • Howardena Pindell artist facts

  • Black History Month facts

  • Women’s History Month facts

  • Tips for project success

  • National Arts Standards and TEKS (Texas) for Kindergarten-5th grades

Choose projects based on materials or have students use the projects as inspiration to create their own artist-inspired artwork.

This is a great project for Black History Month & Women’s History Month. Simply start the project in February and continue it into March without having to worry about schedule changes & testing.  The vibrant artwork produced can be displayed for either month.
