Clay Art Project | Clay Medallion Elementary Project

These clay medallion art projects will keep your students busy & engaged while creating both a 2D & 3D project!  This cross-curricular art lesson designed for 3rd- 5th grades and up includes literacy connections (homophones) and is purposely designed so your students may still work on the project while the clay dries!

This highly engaging student favorite project includes everything needed for a successful project and includes social-emotional learning (SEL).  It is perfect any time of year and may be used with seasonal designs if desired.

This resource is in a PDF file and contains 16 pages.  It includes:

  • Cross-curricular lesson with detailed instructions and photos for 3 clay medallion 2D/3D projects
  • Suggestions for project and material variations
  • Guide for creating clay medallions
  • Cross-curricular and literacy connections
  • Information on homophones and how to incorporate them into the lesson
  • Tips for project success
  • Tree bark reference photo in 2 different sizes
  • National Core Arts Standards and TEKS (Texas) for 3rd-5th grades

This lesson may be used with or without stations.  With 2 different methods for creating medallions and 3 different 2D background projects, it is simple to differentiate, let students choose their own projects, or even mix and match components from other projects to create a project unique to each student.
