French Subjunctive Translations with Listening and Speaking

This advanced French learning resource will give you an opportunity to practice the formation of the subjunctive with 35 regular and irregular verbs. You will also become more familiar with expressions that must be followed by the subjunctive.

HOW TO INSTRUCT STUDENTS TO USE THIS RESOURCE:

STEP 1 - Translate 35 sentences from English to French. The verb to be used in the subjunctive is provided as well as the expression you’ll need to use.

**It was very difficult to translate these French sentences to English. Please keep that in mind as you work through the translations. Sometimes the translations seem awkward, and other times they simply aren't direct translations because it's near impossible to do that. Think outside of the box, and you'll learn a lot of new expressions and how to compare French to English. ALSO please note that French punctuation sometimes varies greatly when compared to English. In an effort to keep things simple, French style punctuation (and run on sentences) are included in the translations.

STEP 2 - Check your work by reading the French translations provided. Don’t worry if the translations don’t match exactly word for word. There is almost always more than one way to translate a sentence.

STEP 3 - Once you have checked your work, take note of new vocabulary and expressions.

STEP 4 - Listen - Use the French text on the answer sheet to read along silently as you listen to a recording of each sentence read slowly. Note any words that you would have pronounced incorrectly.

STEP 5 - Listen and repeat - Use the French text to read aloud as you listen to the recording again. The sentences are read slowly enough for you to complete this task, though it may take a couple of tries. This step will help with pronunciation and fluency.
