French Writing and Speaking Prompts - Telling Stories

The personal descriptions of characters in this resource can either be used as speaking or writing prompts.  

Sometimes it’s difficult for students to come up with good ideas for creative story-telling or imaginative writing on their own.  Very often, they’re so focused on producing correct grammar that they forget how much fun it can be to tell stories!  If you’ve been looking for creative prompts to help get the ball rolling, I know your students will have fun with this resource.

INCLUDED: 

• Detailed descriptions about the lives of 20 very different people 
• At least six details (in French) about each personnage
• 20 no prep pages, one personnage with details per page (see preview)

USE THIS RESOURCE FOR CREATIVE WRITING OR STORY-TELLING:

Students read personal details about a personnage that interests them.  There are twenty to choose from!  

Once they know a few details about the person they’ve chosen, they can start writing or telling a story about them.  They should try to incorporate all of the details they’ve been given, but don’t stop there!  With a little imagination, they can create very interesting stories!

This exercise is best for French 3 and up, or even at the end of French 2.  Students can use as many verb tenses, pronouns, and other grammatical structures as possible in their stories.

How can students work with a friend?

If they’re writing, they can even do this exercise via email or  messaging.  One student sends a line, and their friend writes back with the next one.  It will be so much fun to see what kind of crazy stories they come up with.  Who knows, maybe one personnage will even meet another one from the bunch!  The possibilities are endless. 

If you want to use this resource as a speaking activity, just have students take turns telling the next line of the story.  They will laugh as they see how quickly the storyline can turn.
