This French reading comprehension activity will teach your students about the tragedy of the century in France.  It is suitable for novice-high/intermediate-low students with teacher guidance and higher level students to work independently.  If you teach AP French, this reading can be useful in giving your students practice reading non-fiction articles for the interpretive section of the test.  The reading can lead to discussion or writing activities to include the other two modes of communication.

The Bazaar de la Charité was one of the premier events in Paris in the late 1800's - wealthy women came from the finest families to raise money for charity. But something went terribly wrong and the catastrophe changed Paris society for other. Learn about this event and its effect on the most powerful families of the time in this reading. The event was the basis for a Netflix series.
