This freebie can be used with a reading intervention method developed by Patricia Oelwein. There has been a significant amount of research done on the efficacy of this method. It is shown to be beneficial for students with exceptionalities including Down’s Syndrome and Autism Spectrum Disorder who are struggling to learn to read using phonics.
There are four stages in the method:
1 - Acquisition (Matching, Selecting, Naming)
2 - Fluency (Practice and Review)
3 - Transfer (Use of new fonts and coloured paper)
4 - Generalization (Ability to read the words in any context/format)
