This resource provides practice for phoneme/grapheme mapping of 37 heart words for beginning readers.
Each page has students;
1. Read the word
2. Segment and count the sounds
3. Map the letter(s) and sounds
4. Rainbow write the heart parts
5. Use the word to complete a sentence
These 37 heart words came from the DOLCH high frequency word list. There is an example scope and sequence that include teaching all beginning HFW, not just the included heart words.
The heart words included are the bold and asterisked words on the scope and sequence. You do NOT have to teach them in this order, this is just an example. Feel free to reorganize the sheets to match your sequence.
Some words are permanent irregular words and some are temporary heart words because they are being introduced before one or more of the phonics concepts in the word have been explicitly taught.
