This file contains directions on how to write a found poem, and requires students to write one for a book they are reading independently. The students will choose a passage in their novel that they'd like to summarize using a found poem, then they identify words and phrases from the text that they'll incorporate.It includes the directions, a writer's checklist, a reflection for the students to complete after their poem, and a question at the end that requires them to switch poems with a partner where they have to summarize the section of text their partner wrote about. If they can, their partner's poem was successful in summarizing the text! If not, their partner should go back and revise.
