This French reading comprehension activity will teach your students about pirate Jeanne de Clisson and how she got her revenge. It is suitable for novice-high/intermediate-low students with teacher guidance and higher-level students to work independently. If you teach AP French, this reading can be useful in giving your students practice reading nonfiction articles for the interpretive section of the test. The reading can lead to discussion or writing activities to include the other two modes of communication.
Jeanne de Clisson was called the Lioness of Brittany - angered after the execution of her husband, she swore vengeance against the French crown. She followed up on her threat and became one of the most violent pirates of the era, leaving few survivors from the ships she attacked.
This 2-page French reading for intermediate and advanced French students will teach you all about the castles, their history and purpose. Intermediate low learners will be able to understand the reading with scaffolding and teacher support while Intermediate mid and higher will be able to read independently.
