Money Activity: Build Your Monster Shop | Addition & Subtraction

This Halloween engaging resource allows students to design their own unique monsters and then calculate the cost of their creation.

With two versions available, students can practice either decimal or multi-digit number operations.

What's Included:

  • Monster Parts Sheets (decimals and multi-digit numbers)
  • Build-your-monster Worksheets: Students pick and draw the parts they want with their cost, calculating how much their monster costs.
  • Wallet Worksheets: Practicing budgets, if students have a specific amount and buy their monster, how much do they have left.
  • Answer Key: Provided for easy reference and self-checking.

How it Works:

  1. Design Your Monster: Students select different monster from the printable sheets with various monster parts (e.g., heads, bodies, arms, legs, eyes, mouths) and their corresponding costs - laminate them and pin them on the wall!
  2. Calculate the Cost: Using the pricing guide, students calculate the total cost of their monster.
  3. Determine Remaining Budget: Students subtract the cost of their monster from their initial budget to see how much money they have left.

Benefits:

  • Engaging and Fun: Combines Halloween creativity with math practice.
  • Real-World Application: Connects math to a real-life scenario of budgeting and spending.
  • Differentiation: Offers two versions to accommodate students at different math levels.
