A speaking game to practice PAST SIMPLE and PAST CONTINUOUS (progressive) in sentences with WHEN and WHILE. It contains 60 speaking cards and 10 Kaboom cards. A fun way to practice difficult grammar. Low prep, prints great in colour and in grayscale.
How to play Kaboom!:
- print out and cut up the cards
- put them in a receptacle of your choice
- decide on how long you want to spend on this activity and set a timer
- pupils take turns pulling out a card and forming the sentence
- students form sentences using the provided subjects, verbs and picture prompts
- students may need to add prepositions, articles or pronouns to form a grammatically correct sentence
- WHEN should be followed by a clause in PAST SIMPLE
- WHILE should be followed by a clause in PAST CONTINUOUS (verbs that do not form past continuous, such as want, know, need, understand etc., have been omitted)
- if they say it right, they get to keep the card
- if they get it wrong, they put it back
- the next pupil takes a turn
- if they pull out a Kaboom! card, they put all their cards back
- pupil with the most cards when the time is up wins
