This activity is an engaging and accessible way for your students to practice and strengthen their knowledge of American geography as well as states and capital cities!

Students will be tasked with identifying a mystery state that can be only be solved through the process of elimination. They will be prompted to use a political map of America to solve various puzzles and eliminate 49 states until they have only one left, thus solving the mystery.

This is a great way to review states and capital cities and basic map skills. The print version requires that students have access to a physical map but there is a link to a map in the digital version.

“China: One Question, Five Generational Perspectives” is a set of resources delving into the changing politics of the Chinese leadership over a seventy year period. This resource contains five files:

Google Slides (31 slides)

Highlighting the background and achievement of five generational Chinese leaders; Mao Zedong, Deng Xiao Ping, Jiang Zemin, Hu Jintao, and Xi Jinping.

• Part 1 gives a summary and major achievements of each 
• Part 2 Major differences, developments, and contradictions between generational leadership
• Part 3 looks at ten major changes from Mao to Xi and also ten things that have changed very little over the last 70 years.

The purpose of the document is to provide comparative insights on various questions as if answered by five significant Chinese leaders: Mao Zedong, Deng Xiaoping, Jiang Zemin, Hu Jintao, and Xi Jinping at the time of their leadership. With this resource, students will be given instructions on how to make a line in a variety of fun ways. They must use teamwork, talk with each other, sometimes communicate without talking, and rearrange themselves according to the prompt. Perfect for back to school, brain breaks, or just for fun!

Getting to Know You Brainstorming Activity

With this engaging no-prep activity, students brainstorm responses for each letter of the alphabet. Questions include sharing about themselves, their likes and dislikes, what they enjoy about school, and things they want to accomplish in their life (aka, a bucket list). 

Brainstorming Activity - What do you want to learn, do, and experience this year?

In this no-prep activity, students brainstorm things they want to learn, do or experience this school year for each letter of the alphabet. They can plan, brainstorm, practice future tense, and think ahead about all the fun things to come this school year. Working in small groups or individually, students will surely enjoy this simple activity.
