Then, there is a great American Civil War Digital Research and Sorting Activity that is perfect for introducing students to some of the key events of the American Civil War. Great for class work, distance learning or home schooling. There are 37 posters or task cards that include many of the key events and periods from the election of Abraham Lincoln to the surrender of Robert E. Lee's Confederate forces to Ulysses S. Grant.

There is also an American Civil War Informational Text Writing Activity. The activity focuses on key facts about the war, and has been split into three separate lessons which will take students approximately 40-50 minutes each.

Also included is the Most Influential Civil War General - Discussion Based Writing Distance Learning Unit. This resource is a 5th grade or 6th grade discussion based writing unit discussing who was the most influential general during the American Civil War: Ulysses S. Grant, Robert E. ✅ You can use this set of 32 Inference Task Cards to help students practice making inferences. These Short Story Inference Task Cards include a short passage with the following two questions at the bottom of each passage:

SHORT STORY INFERENCE WORKSHEETS WITH QUESTIONS (Print and Digital)

✅ The Short Story Inference Worksheets include PDF and Google Slide versions. They contain the same story/passage that are in the Inference Task Cards followed by three inference-based questions. Students are required to support their inferences with relevant details/evidence.

• Quiz or Test - You can distribute a copy of the Inference Task Cards (one or more task cards at a time), OR you can distribute one Short Story Inference Worksheet to each student to complete and count as a quiz or test. You, as the teacher, can then select the inference story number that students performed the lowest on or appeared to have difficulty making inferences with and use that to review or reteach the skill.

• Small Group Instruction - You can have students engage in small group instruction where you provide additional support on the skill of inferencing. These Inference Task Cards will support that type of instruction. You can have all students in small groups practice with the same Inference Task Card story number or you can distribute 1-2 Task Cards to each student to practice, then review.

• Mini Lesson - You can load these Inference Task Cards (or Inference stories) on the Smartboard and use them to demonstrate how to make an inference. They can also be used to discuss the importance of details and how they are used to support inferential thinking. You can even use these Inference Short Stories to discuss the difference between relevant details and irrelevant details. Finally, you can use these Short Story Inference Task Cards during the Guided Practice portion of your lesson.

• Exit Slips - You can use these Task Cards as Exit Slips by distributing one Inference Worksheet (Remember, there are 32 of them!) to each student to complete and hand in to you before they leave.

• Partner Study - You can have students pair up and “test each other.” Partners not only ask each other to make valid inferences, but to highlight or underline specific details in the selection/passage to support their inference-based answers and ideas.

• Students do NOT need any background knowledge (or need to have read the books) to answer these Inference Multiple-Choice Questions! The passages were carefully selected, so students can make general inferences whether they have read the books or not. :-)

EACH OF THE SIX NOVELS INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

Task Cards and Task Card ANSWER KEYS (and Student Answer Sheet)

• The first set of Inference Task Cards for each novel consists of a short selection/passage from the book followed by an inference-based question. There are four multiple choice answers that students choose from. Students read the passage and choose the correct answer. Students will need to pay close attention to details to choose the correct answer. The inference questions are centered around character traits, character relationships, and situations.

• The second set of 16 Inference Task Cards for each novel is the actual “Answer Key” set of the first set of Task Cards. The Task Card Answer Keys highlight the correct multiple-choice answer in the color red and highlights relevant evidence that supports the correct answer in the color yellow.

• This is engaging practice for your students as it is perfect for mini-lessons, whole class instruction, cooperative learning, intervention groups, literacy centers, and small group instruction.

Inference Tests and ANSWER KEYS (Print and Digital)

• Also included are "Test Format" versions of the Inference Task Cards (same passages). This includes ANSWER KEYS as well! The tests consist of 16 multiple-choice inference questions. (There's one Test and Answer key for each novel.)

Inference Graphic Organizer (Print and Digital)

• One-page Three-Column Graphic Organizer Chart that requires students to make evidence-based inferences. Students record the following information in the Inference Graphic Organizer: Information from the text, their own Prior/Background Knowledge, and Inferences. This is a great scaffolding tool for ELL and Special Ed students.

Inference Bookmarks

• This bookmark includes sentence stems consistent with making inferences. Students can reference these inference stems to stimulate their thinking, increase comprehension, and actively engage in reading and discussion. Students can also use these inference stems in their writing! These bookmarks can be used to support reading comprehension in any text.

Suggestions on how you can use the Multiple-Choice Inference Task Cards:

1. Quiz or Test - You can make a copy of the set of Task Cards and distribute to each student as a quiz or test. You, as the teacher , can then select the Task Card Inference question that students performed the lowest on and use that to review and develop/modify your instruction.

2. Small Group Instruction - You can have students engage in small group instruction where you provide additional support on the skill of inferencing. These Inference Task Cards will support that type of instruction. You can have all students in small groups practice with the same inference task card question number or you can distribute 1-2 Task Cards to each student to practice, then review.

3. Mini Lesson - You can load these Inference Task Cards on the Smartboard and use them to demonstrate how to make an inference. 4. Formative Assessment / Exit Slips - These Inference Task Cards make a great, quick formative assessment! You can easily check for understanding by distributing 1-2 Task Cards to each student to complete. You can circulate the room to do a "Quick Check" to see if students "Got it." You can also use these Task Cards as Exit Slips by distributing 1-2 Task Cards to each student to complete and hand in to you before they leave.

5. Partner Study - You can have students pair up and “test each other.” Partners not only ask each other to choose the correct multiple-choice answer, but to highlight or underline specific details in the selection/passage to support their inference-based answer. The Answer Key set of Task Cards are helpful in the sense that students can take ownership of reviewing the correct answers and sharing that with their partners**.**

6. Test Prep Review - You can use these Task Cards to review how to answer multiple-choice questions. You can also use these cards to teach students a variety of multiple-choice strategies (process of elimination, context clues, textual evidence, tone, etc.) to help them select the right answers to questions and aid comprehension.

Context Clues is an important skill that students must master in order to improve and enhance their comprehension of texts. This skill is especially important for students to apply on state exams to meet proficiency. This resource provides 36 opportunities for students to practice using context clues to determine the meanings of unknown words. The Task Cards and Test Format contain the same content and include 36 multiple-choice questions. Students read 1-3 sentences that contain an underlined vocabulary word in which they must use context clues to figure out the meaning of the word. They choose the correct answer. The sentences include clues or “hints” that students can use to help them figure out the meaning of the words. The ANSWER KEY Task Cards highlight the context clues in the color yellow, and the correct answer choice in the color red.

✨ The Context Clues Task Cards are included in Google Slides. Students simply drag the correct letter choice to the answer line - Interactive!

Text boxes have already been created to make it easier for you and your students! Each slide includes two instruction solution tabs for when students accidentally delete text boxes and when they want to zoom in (to enlarge worksheets). It's super helpful for students who are not that familiar with how to use Google Slides or need the extra assistance.

The Task Cards are visually appealing and can be printed out, laminated, and put on a binder ring for repeated, long term use.

How to Use the Task Cards:
✦ You can distribute 1-3 Task Cards per student and use as a Formative Assessment or Exit Ticket.

✦ You can display one Task Card at a time on the Smartboard or Document Camera during a Mini Lesson to “model” how to use context clues to figure out the meaning of unknown words.

✦ You can use the Task Cards in small groups to provide intervention or additional support to struggling students.

✦ You can have students pair up and “test” each other – ANSWER KEYS are included.

A BOOM Cards™ Escape Room Activity & a printable Escape Room Activity about the legendary American baseball player, Jackie Robinson. The NO PREP activities are ideal for distance learning and perfect for students in fifth grade or sixth grade.

For first time BOOM Card™ users, the resource comes with an explanation of how to assign the cards to your class, and has lots of useful links to support you using the activity.

Both activities follow a similar format, with slight variances to the BOOM Cards version to allow the resource to be digital and self-marking.

In Task 1 students will read an informational text about Jackie Robinson and then find their way through a maze by answering true or false comprehension questions. If they answer the questions correctly they will reveal their first word.

In Task 2 students will complete a crossword puzzle by answering ten questions. Answering these questions correctly will reveal some hidden letters which need to be unscrambled to reveal the second word.

In Task 3 students will sort 27 timeline task cards about important sporting events in US history, putting them in order from the earliest date to the most recent. When they have finished their third word will be revealed.

In Task 4 students will have to find the missing words in a wordsearch puzzle before finding a hidden word from the letters that are left over in the puzzle. This hidden word is their fourth and final word.
