The National Day of Prayer is a day set aside in the United States for people to pray and reflect. It happens annually on the first Thursday of May. On the National Day of Prayer, people of all faiths are encouraged to come together and pray for our nation and communities.

Writing Initial Sounds in Words

4 worksheets in which children need to look at a picture and then write in the missing beginning sound from the word.
Why do you need this?
Recognizing beginning sounds lays the groundwork for reading skills. These worksheets give students practice isolating and identifying initial phonemes through interactive activities.
Connecting sounds to letters and pictures reinforces phonetic awareness. With pictures of things like food, animals, and vehicles, children apply knowledge to familiar vocabulary.
How and when might you use this?
Each worksheet contains 10 pictures with the corresponding word next to it however each word has the beginning sound missing. Students must decipher the beginning sound by saying the word out loud and then write the missing sound on the line.

One side of the sheet students will rewrite the two sentences into one sentence using the correct conjunction. The second side of the sheet students will just write the conjunction they would use to combine the two sentences.

Sight Word Cloze Sentences | First Grade High Frequency Words

Cloze sentences provide young learners an opportunity to use words in context and to gain a better understanding of sentence sense. Use the cloze sentences on the following pages for children to practice selecting the correct word from the word boxes to complete each sentence.
To extend the activity, have children create their own sentences with a missing word. The sentences can also be copied on a separate sheet of paper, cut apart, and reconstructed for sentence sense practice.
