• Science Jenga! Add a scientific twist to the classic game of Jenga! Number the Jenga blocks and assign each number to a specific task card. When a player pulls a block, another player reads the corresponding card and the first player answers the question.
• Formative Assessments: Use these task cards as quick quizzes or formative assessments to gauge student understanding of various science concepts.

Music is inspiring and is a great way to help students find interest in the topic being studied and grasp the information. I use it often! This lesson implements June Carter Cash's and Johnny Cash's song, Ring of Fire, as part of the introduction. In addition, the lesson discusses not only the plates but also the boundaries and how they move creating new landforms. Students will, in addition, track and plot earthquakes and volcanoes.

OBJECTIVE:

o The learner will identify the Ring of Fire’s geographical location and will identify it as a region.

o The learner will describe the events that occur along the Ring of Fire—earthquakes and volcanic activity.

o The learner will plot recent earthquakes and volcanoes in the Pacific Ocean on a map to discover the relationship between these events and the plate boundaries.

o The learner will determine the types of boundaries that lie within the Ring of Fire

MATERIAL NEEDED:
o Copies of Ring of Fire lyrics, Johnny Cash version, written by June Carter Cash (Included)

o Technology to play the song as learners follow along with the lyrics. (Find the song on Youtube or Spotify)

o Demonstrations: Graham crackers, peanut butter, a plate, and something with which to spread the peanut butter (or substitute icing or anything creamy) (5) bowl of water (If you want you can have students take part in the demonstration, provide enough for learners to work in groups.)

o Tectonic Plate Puzzle (Included)

This packet provides activities and centers about the different kinds of animals and trees that live in the forest. It can be a simple packet for talking about the animals and plants in general or you can go further by learning about the plants in the coniferous forest verses the plants that live in the deciduous forest. Pages 3-5 – These pages are a sorting activity where students can sort the animals and plants according to whether they are in a deciduous forest or a coniferous forest. Combine this sorting set with those from other Habitat sets for more sorting options. Pages 6-13 – The pages are for drawing pictures of different kinds of forests and drawing animals that live there. Student will write the names for the animals they draw. There are pages for forests, woodlands, the Amazon and the African jungle. Each type of forest has 2 pages with different writing lines. Pages 14-19 – These are poster pages for each type of forest and the plants and animals that live there. Pages 20-23 – These are clip cards for telling whether the animals live in the woodlands or the rain forest. In this product, rocks and minerals are reviewed. The three kinds of rocks - sedimentary, metamorphic, and igneous rocks are reviewed. Students will learn how each rock is formed, where minerals are found, the percentage of igneous rock that makes up the Earth's crust, examples of each type of rock are provided, how sedimentary rocks form, sediments that are found in our environment that make up sedimentary rocks, students will examine layers in rock and will answer comprehension questions when looking at the rock, the percentage of rock that covers the Earth's land, how weathering, transportation, precipitation, erosion, and deposition lead to the creation of sedimentary rocks and what each of these are. How sediment is carried is also reviewed, a list of sediments that make up sedimentary rock are presented, and students will also be provided with a chart showing the different layers of sediment in the ground, students will also see a chart that shows how sedimentary rocks are formed, how metamorphic rocks are made, where morph and meta come from, how rocks change, and a diagram of the rock cycle is also presented. Students will be required to label the rock cycle in this product as well. At the end of this product, students will complete a multiple choice and short answer review.

Throughout the product, students will answer short answer comprehension questions to ensure comprehension after reviewing notes.

The following vocabulary words: asexual reproduction, sexual reproduction, dominate, hybrid, recessive, selective breeding, adaptation, inbreeding, regeneration, adaptations – camouflage, warning coloration, and mimicry.

Students will learn about how traits are passed through the adapted notes, review, and adaptations project template that are included in this product. Students will also learn the following, what asexual reproduction is, examples of organisms that are produced asexually, a review of what binary fission and budding are, what happens in these two processes, and how it is the simplest type of asexual reproduction. Students will learn there some organisms use asexual reproduction part of the time. Organisms such as fungi, plants, and yeast can go between asexual and sexual reproduction. Students will learn how these organisms go between both asexual and sexual reproduction. Students will learn about regeneration and are provided with examples on how this process works, sexual reproduction in organisms – plants and animals, students will learn about the male and female parts of a flowering plant and how what the process of sexual reproduction is in a plant, dominant and recessive genes are reviewed, and students will be provided with examples when looking at different colored flowers and how and why the offspring would be a specific color, when reviewing sexual reproduction in flowers, students will also learn that a fertilized egg contains DNA from both parents, selective breeding, hybrid, and inbreeding are reviewed and examples are provided to ensure comprehension. Adaptations will be covered in this lesson as well and will cover – camouflage, warning coloration, and mimicry.

At the end of the product there is a how traits are passed review that includes fill in the blank questions with the use of a key based on previously learned vocabulary covered in the product, diagrams that students will be required to draw based on pictures or diagrams that were presented in the product, and short answer comprehension questions.

In this product, students will have the opportunity to answer comprehension questions, complete drawings based on a diagram or picture provided, and answer fill in the blank questions using a key based on previously learned vocabulary words. Students can complete these questions independently, in a group, or with help.

Students are provided with an Adaptations Product template as well. Students will choose one adaptation that was learned about: camouflage, warning coloration, and mimicry, and will use the internet/Google to search for an animal that uses one of these adaptations to survive. Students will answer short answer questions, circle pictures, and draw a picture of their animal.
