Felt-boards (or flannel boards) are a fabulous method of sharing music and rhythm with children by using visual props along with songs. My collection of songs and poems will help you to use your felt-board to its fullest potential. This set includes 30 songs and poems that are appropriate for preschool and kindergarten, and are perfect for circle time, group time or music class. I have included lots of old favorites, but some are new and fun songs and fingerplays that will enhance your curriculum.

The set includes more than a hundred adorable graphics which have recently been updated. All you have to do is print out the set and cut out the graphics. (You can laminate the images and attach felt or Velcro to the back if you want to use them on a flannel board or felt board.) Words to each song or poem are included and can be printed and glued onto 3x5 inch index cards.

If you're working on meter in your classroom, here's an engaging lesson that'll test your students' math skills! In Sign of the Times, we do a brief introduction of meter (from there on called" Time Signature"). After the introduction, we talk about how measures (musical sentences) are formed and how composers have the freedom to write different beat patterns in music. The lesson in PDF format (also included is the video along with an editable powerpoint file) continues with illustrations of 4 types of time signatures, and gets into the game format -- a measure with combinations of quarter, eighths, whole, and half notes will appear in the staff and students will have to guess the time signature. On the next slide, the answer will appear. I like to do this boys vs. girls -- they have to use their quick thinking to add up the beats! Some are easy to moderate, but as we progress it gets a little harder! If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment... that's the sign of the times!

Use these books to help your students learn the triplet rhythm! The rhythm and beat charts help with decoding triplets and the worksheets provided help with the practice of writing a triplet rhythm. In addition, you can discuss and explore social emotional learning with "A Hug is for Holding Me." Some lessons are adaptable for grades PreK-3rd grade while the Tanabata Star Festival Lesson is for the upper grades.

Musician Rating Activity - There are more options to profile the composer on the rating sheet, including which season and musical style they belong to. This can also be used as a listening sheet or as a bulletin board display.

Word Composer Activity - The classic letter puzzle, students can use all the letters from the composer's full name to create new, shorter words and record their scores. Add a timer for an extra challenge.

A brand new approach to the Recorder System! I use original and simple compositions for this one which I use this with my 3rd graders. We start off simple and get into more technical things along the way -- scaffolding made simple!. I find it's more beneficial than just teaching them 3 or 4 notes as I like to cultivate them a little more by discovering new notes, rhythms, and phrases. This includes 12 original songs for all of your students and have fingering charts and tips and hints included on every slide! Using Eric Carle's "Pancakes, Pancakes" and Judith Viorst's "Alexander, Who's Not (Do you hear me? I mean it!) Going to Move" learn about 16th notes using the chants composed for these books. Use the accompanying beat charts to decode for the 16th note rhythm. Accompanying worksheets can also help to reinforce writing 16th notes either digitally or on paper. Great for 2nd-3rd grade.
