Books of the Bible - Old Testament and New Testament - 4 Activities

By Dovie Funk

Here are FOUR simple activities you can do as a class to help review the books of the Bible:

Old Testament Game

The first is simply books of the Old Testament that students put in order as quickly as possible then say the names of the books together to review.

New Testament Game

The second is books of the New Testament that are placed in order on the frames to review.

I have also added six pages that can be used in digital resources by filling in the missing books of the Bible.

Fun Facts Activity

There is also an information page with six facts about the books of the Bible. I send this home as homework for students to learn the facts, decorate and bring back for a treat.

Individual New Testament Game

My favorite activity is a board game you can use as an individual activity or as partners. The board is printed in black and white on paper. Kids will roll a dice or spin a spinner to move their game piece. They color the piece where they land as well as say the books of the Bible as they go. The game continues until the board is completely colored.

After playing these games several times, students are much more familiar with the books of the Bible and some will be able to recite them by memory. I use these activities in Children's Church and the kids really enjoy it!

God Sends Gideon, Judges 6:1-24, Homeschool, Bible Lesson, All Ages

By Cheryl Bennett

God Sends Gideon is a great resource if you are teaching or learning about Judges 6:1-24. Not only is there a summary of the story with colorful clipart, there are also several activities for every age. There are even study sheets to help teachers prepare for teaching the lesson.

Include:

  • Printing instructions
  • Story pages with color, great for creating your own version of a children's Bible story book
  • Story pages in black and white
  • Coloring pages
  • Storyboard in color
  • Storyboard in black and white
  • Ideas for story review for all ages
  • “What’s happening in this picture?” activity - great for small groups, pairs, or whole class
  • Story ordering activity
  • A short Bible study series over this passage, easily adaptable for any age.
  • Recording activity for key people, places, and things. The idea here is to start incorporating the Inductive Bible Study Method for any age
  • Brainstorm Activity - 5Ws and an H questions for the passage
  • Create questions and answers with a place for passages where answers are found
  • Summarize the Passage activity
  • A gospel presentation. I recommend tying this into every lesson. Remind the students of the sins that people in the passage committed and how this was a violation of 1 or more of the Ten Commandments. Remind them that we also violate God’s laws and need Jesus, the perfect sacrifice, to save us. He took the punishment through death and rose from death. He is one day coming back!

Gideon Puts out a Fleece, Judges 6:5-40, Homeschool, Bible Lesson

By Cheryl Bennett

This resource is great for ages pre-school to adult. It includes activities for all ages and some that can just be adapted for each age group. If you are ready to take your personal Bible study to a new level, especially in preparation for teaching, you will find pages to guide you.

Include:

  • Printing instructions
  • Colorful clipart
  • A simplified story for younger learners
  • A study guide for older ages
  • Activities to help learners engage with the text and not simply passively take it in
  • Story pages with color
  • Story pages in black and white - great for coloring pages
  • A storyboard in color - perfect for review on the day of the lesson or days later
  • A storyboard in black and white - can be used as a resource to send home with students so they can re-read with parents or others at home
  • Puzzle piece activity that can be used for different ages. It serves as a review of Judges 6 and how it connects to the gospel. Print and cut out the puzzle pieces and have learners match the description with the picture. You can read to the students who are not yet reading. You can also mix them up so that they have to put them in order of the story. This page serves as an answer key before it is cut.
  • In-depth study pages for Judges as a whole. The goal is to begin to use the Inductive Bible Study method to help students (adults and children) observe scripture in context and then interpret it and apply it correctly. Use your discretion for the ages that are ready for this much depth. It involves re-reading the chapter and may need to be done over several days.
  • The Gospel is on slide 23 and can be used with every lesson as a reminder that the Gospel is central to all of the Word of God.
