Être, Aller, Avoir, Faire + Descriptive French Adjectives - Correct the mistakes - No prep printables

These are simple, fun, and no-prep one page bell ringer worksheets in which beginner French students identify mistakes that have been made in sentences using the verbs être, aller, avoir, and faire in the present tense with descriptive adjectives.

Students underline the mistakes (the verbs are conjugated incorrectly, and the adjectives do not agree with the nouns they describe). Once they've identified the mistakes, they rewrite the sentences on the line provided. Answer keys are included.

These worksheets could be laminated and used repeatedly with dry-erase markers or completed on an iPad with annotation/whiteboard tools.

This French Thanksgiving themed reading and listening comprehension lesson is meant for upper-intermediate levels.  The content will appeal to upper elementary or middle school immersion and even core curriculum high school students.  The story is read by François, a Parisian native French speaker.

• Story - 1 page printable, approximately 300 words
• Vocabulary list - French and English - 1 page printable
• 10 comprehension questions - 1  page printable
• Audio recording of the story - Native French speaker

Recommended lesson plan for reading comprehension:

STEP 1:  Distribute the vocabulary list, and read the words aloud having students repeat after you.  All of the words listed are in the story they will read, and many of them may be new.  

STEP 2:  Distribute the 10 reading comprehension questions.  Have students read them before reading the story for greater understanding of the information they will need to retain.

STEP 3:  Distribute the 1 page story, and either have students read it silently, or read it together as a class with the teacher calling on individual students to read a passage aloud. 

STEP 4:  Students answer ten comprehension questions either in written form as they read silently, or do the exercise orally as a whole class activity once everyone has finished.

This French reading comprehension activity will allow you to read a short story, entirely in French.  It tells the origin story of an unconventional hero.

Josh is a typical boy, until he goes on a camping trip and everything changes. He starts being polite, he develops weird food preferences, and suddenly develops mad hockey skills. What is happening to him, and how will he use these new powers for good instead of evil?

This 12-page reading includes a 4-page story with vocabulary, comprehension questions in French and English, an activity to design a superhero costume, and video resource links.

25 half page worksheets to use as writing prompts: These are meant for primary students as they include space to draw a picture and there is only space for a short paragraph. These are perfect for literacy centers.

25 full page worksheets to use as writing prompts: These are meant for middle school or high school students. These prompts are a helpful way to "get started" when looking for something to write about.

25 sentence stem strips: Print and cut out the strips, punch holes in the spaces provided, and hook them together with a ring. Students can read the sentence stems and complete the sentences by using words they have learned to form the remainder of their sentences. Writing prompt sheets are the fast and easy No-Prep way of adding a little boost to your writing program all while getting students to progress with their decoding and encoding skills. The rich vocabulary used in this resource seamlessly aligns with the Science of Reading progression recommended by many school boards.

Once you have a grasp on all the simple sounds in French, the magic happens when you get students writing. They don't even notice that all the words used are from their very own memory banks and are all decodable words from past lessons.

What's included in this resource:

• 4 writing prompt pages with picture dictionary on the side
• 4 writing prompt pages with details added to the picture to 'write what you see'
• 4 pages with possible writing guides for teachers in case students are having trouble coming up with ideas
• each page has 6 vocabulary words or expressions about Earth Day or recycling ideas
• each page has a title prompting students to have unique ideas

Who can use this resource:

Teachers who are just getting accustomed to using strategies from the Science of Reading can use these simple texts to open up independent practice, small group evaluation, or up on a digital screen for whole group instruction and reading practice.

Make a set and send them home with students to build fluency in writing and confidence in writing strategies.

The prompts are designed to offer many variations for students to use their imaginations and to build confidence in their own writing.

Correction sheet is handy for use with a substitute as they can confidently assess students and command the lesson even when they are not assured of their French skills.

What grade level:

I personally use these texts with Grade 1 and Grade 2 students in French Immersion. I feel confident that students from K-3 will find these most useful and teachers can come back to the texts with any students who may be experiencing challenges in their French writing skills. Core French teachers will be sure to add the resource to their repertoire for Grades 4 to 6 as they learn to read and write at the Junior level.

Science of Reading:

These prompts are aligned with sounds being taught in any Science of Reading aligned curriculum. They are set up for student success based on the research for increasing writing proficiency and building student confidence in the classroom!

Once you have established the strategies for identifying sounds, initial sounds, and blending sounds, segmenting sounds, students will be able to use these self-driven passages on their own. What a great way to build learning autonomy!
